The Beatles sang about a “long and winding road,” which is a good way to describe the journey Williamstown and the MGP whiskey warehouses have taken. That road, which began in 2017, is not finished but has instead detoured into litigation.

As of Feb. 12, MGPI of Indiana filed a lawsuit alleging breach of contract against the “City of Williamstown, KY, Williamstown City Council, Kim Crupper, Greg Middleton, Robert Perry, Gina Austin Smith, Payson Payne, John Coleman, Grant County Planning Commission, Marlon Kinsey, Carl King, Dan Bates, Tim Mann, Jason Dunaway, Katie McClafferty, Billy Hill, Carol Edmondson, Nancy Duley, Darrin Spahr, Diane Olberding and Mayor Mark Christopher.”

This encompasses the Williamstown mayor and city council and the Grant County Planning Commission.

The filing was done at the US District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky in Covington. The court is encouraging the parties to attend mediation. If this does not work, however, proceedings may continue to court.

According to Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER), on Wednesday, Feb. 28, a “motion for extension of time” was requested by Frank Wichmann for the City of Williamstown and Mayor Christopher. It appears it will not be in court until late March. As more information comes available, Grant County News with provide updates.
