The solar eclipse on April 8 occurred just as Grant County Schools were dismissing. To protect students’ eyesight and to ensure they got to watch the rare event, the district purchased solar eclipse glasses for every single student.

In the interest of student safety, Williamstown dismissed students at 1 p.m. that day. Williamstown students were given eclipse glasses, and families were encouraged to submit eclipse pictures to share on the district’s Facebook page.

While Grant County did not experience totality, the coverage was over 98% at the peak of the eclipse.

Many of the students in these pictures will be approaching middle age when the next total solar eclipse to be visible from the contiguous United States occurs Aug. 23, 2044.

Thanks to Danielle Haley, Public Information Officer for Grant County Schools; and Bryan Marshall, Public Information Officer for Williamstown Independent Schools, for sharing these images with the Grant County News.
