On April 1, Melissa Morgan agreed to take on the job of Director of Grant County Emergency Management. On April 2, while under a tornado warning, her position was unanimously approved by the members of the Grant County Fiscal Court as she was swinging into action to prepare for the predicted severe weather.

During the potentially severe storms and flooding, Morgan organized the command center for the county and coordinated with Boone, Kenton and Campbell County command post for readiness and response.

Morgan said one of the best parts about the incident was “We had churches around the county volunteering to open up as shelters. They were reaching out, and they were doing that on their own.”

She said as she moves forward her office will be organizing shelters more and utilizing/assisting the churches in this endeavor.

The four churches were: Sherman Church of Christ, Sherman Baptist, Macedonia Baptist and Unity Baptist.
