Williamstown track athletes made an impressive showing at the Ludlow Invitational on Friday, April 19, securing gold medals and setting records on Ludlow’s brand new track and football field.

Head Coach Adam Coleman praised the track, saying, “The track is really nice, a really cool football field with the red turf, and really good padding on the track so we’re really excited to be out here and to support smaller schools and have a really cool, small meet.”

Riley Morris set a meet record in the boys’ 400-meter dash with a swift time of 53.05, claiming victory among seven competitors.

Layne Clark also performed well, finishing third in the event with a time of 56.95.

Harper Mann dominated the girls’ 400-meter dash, setting a new personal record (PR) of 1.05 and securing first place.

“As soon as I finished the 400, I knew my body was pushed to the limit, but seeing the time made it all worth it,” Mann said.

“I feel amazing especially since I’ve PR’d every time I ran the 400 this season, so hopefully within the next couple weeks I can get the school record.”

Lily Fabela followed close behind in the 400m, coming in second place with the time of 1.09.

In the boys’ 100meter dash, Morris secured another first place with an impressive time of 11.81.

On the girls side of the 100 meter dash with 14 other runners, Ava Martin set a PR of 15.38 and placed eighth.

Other notable performances included Fabela’s victory in the girls’ 200-meter dash with a time of 29.45; Cameron Reynolds setting a new PR of 13:33 and winning the girls’ 3200-meter run; and Javonte Yangoua’s first-place finish in the boys’ 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.

Marking a first time for both runners, Avery King and Dills competed in the girls 300m hurdles with six other runners and Dills placed fourth with a time of 1:00 and King placed fifth with a time of 1:04.

Moving to field events Zach Mirones won the boys’ discus throw with a throw of 115-10, and Chloe Linder placed third in the girls’ long jump with a leap of 13-1.75.

Relay teams also performed well, with the girls’ 4x800 relay team (Dills, Mann, Fabela, Lanter) finishing second with a time of 11:35, and the boys’ 4x800 relay team (Clark, Yangoua, William Osborne, Aaron Reynolds) coming in second with a time of 9:01.

The meet wrapped up with the girls’ 4x400 relay team (Lanter, Fabela, Dills, Mann) finishing strong in second place with a time of 4:47.

Williamstown’s athletes demonstrated remarkable skill and determination, setting records and leaving their mark at the Ludlow Invitational.
