At noon March 11, Mayor Mark Christopher called a special meeting of the Williamstown City Council to order to discuss hiring an outside law firm to address pending litigation and the resignation of Greg Middleton. All council members were present with the exception of Middleton.
As Christopher called for a motion to begin the discussion about hiring Dinsmore & Shohl LLP to represent the city and its council members in pending Litigation, City Attorney Frank Wichmann interrupted to request a closed session.
Upon exiting the closed session, Christopher noted, “No actions were taken; no votes were made. The city attorney, Mr. Wichmann, wanted to inform the council on something before we pursued further.”
The meeting continued, and a motion was made by Councilmember Jayson Payne and seconded by Councilmember John Coleman to retain Dinsmore & Shohl LLP. Motion carried in a four to one vote, with Kim Crupper casting the dissenting vote.
The last agenda item was a letter from Greg Middleton resigning his position as a city council member. There was some confusion as to the date his resignation would go into effect, but Wichmann concluded it would “not come effective until the next meeting, which is the 19th.”
Councilmember Bob Perry requested Middleton’s letter be read at that meeting.
The next scheduled meeting will be the regularly scheduled special meeting on Monday, March 19 at 6 p.m. at 400 North Main Street Williamstown. For more information, contact (859) 824-3633.
