Did you know that one day Grant County could have a 48-mile trail that will allow a wide range of users (walkers, joggers, equestrian riders, cyclists and riders on other non-motorized vehicles) to get physically active and provide connections to schools, downtowns, parks and other amenities within Grant County?

The Grant County Heritage Trail, an initiative of Fitness For Life Around Grant County (FFLAG), is focusing on the development of a 48-mile multi-surface, multi–use pathway. The trail will be developed in phases to connect the northern and southern border of the county with existing infrastructure and future pathways.

The Grant County Heritage Trail project is a joint effort between the county, cities and various organizations. Parts of the trail are already in existence, with other parts still to come over the next five to 10 years.

This project is exciting and needed because it has the ability to improve the quality of life for Grant County residents and for the many tourists who now visit our community. It will provide free access to increased physical activity for people of all ages.

The Grant County Heritage Trail Foundation, a non-profit coalition, received a $1.59 million grant from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to get the project off the ground with Phase 1 of the trail starting in Crittenden.

Part of the foundation’s purpose is to also raise additional local funds as part of a match to receive those federal dollars. The Grant County Heritage Trail Foundation is seeking $350,000 in private support over the next year for the completion of Phase 1 totaling $1,991,917.

We are happy to announce that the Grant County Heritage Trail Foundation has received $318,000 in support of Phase 1 of the trail. We were awarded $300,000 from the R.C. Durr Foundation along with funding support coming from the Dana Foundation, Grant County Tourism, FFLAG and NKY Health.

We are so excited to announce that Phase 1 of the Grant County Heritage Trail is almost fully funded. But we still need you to step up to make the Grant County Heritage Trail a reality. For more information on how to become a sponsor go to the website at https://www.fitnessforlifegc.com/heritagetrail. We also invite you to join us.
