Bluegrass Vet holds ribbon cutting

Bluegrass Vet has opened its doors in Dry Ridge and is ready to help keep Grant County’s dogs and cats healthy.

Twin sisters Jessie and Meghan Kinman cut the ribbon on a new veterinary practice in Dry Ridge on March 13.

Located at 300 Arbors Drive in Dry Ridge, the stylish former dentist’s office needed little work to transform it into a vet’s office, complete with cute paw print numbers on the doors and artwork featuring staff members’ pets.

Jessie, who got her veterinary degree at Auburn University, and Meghan, who got her veterinary technician degree at Morehead State University, worked together at another practice and are confident in their ability to work well together.

“I felt like I was just ready,” Jessie said of her decision to open up a practice of her own.

“There’s a need here. We wanted to support our community,” added Meghan.

The twins grew up on a cattle farm in Crittenden where Meghan said they had about every animal imaginable, even raccoons at one point. “Any animal, we pretty much took it,” she laughed.

Jessie wanted to be a dog when she was growing up. Fortunately for Grant County, the sisters’ shared dream came true instead.

“This was our dream growing up,” Jessie said.

Getting the practice up and running has taken a little more time than expected, and Jessie has found herself taking on multiple roles.

“I’m a vet ... I’m an IT person ... I put together tables.”

Speaking of tables, the practice is still waiting on stainless steel tables and kennels. Stainless steel items have been a challenge to get in a timely manner since COVID.

As a result, no surgeries can be done at the moment, but the necessary surgical table, kennels, and anesthesia machine should all be in by the end of March or early April. Once all of the equipment is in place, they will be able to perform surgeries.
