    The first two weeks of the golf season have proven to be good ones for the Grant County Braves.  They continue to place in the top three teams of each of the tournaments they have played.

    The Grant County Braves boys’ golf team got off to a strong start in the 2018 season with a second-place finish at the Bullitt East Charger Open held at Tanglewood Golf Club on July 27.

    The Grant County Lady Braves competed in the Walton Verona Bearcat Birdie Bash at Sugar Bay Golf Course on July 28.

    There were 11 teams and one individual who competed in the tournament.

    The Lady Braves finished fourth overall with a team score of 411.

    Defense led to the Williamstown softball team falling 11-3 in the 32nd district tournament against Walton Verona.

    “Walton played an outstanding defensive game and we made seven errors,” said Lady Demons Coach Andrew Laughlin.

    Rain halted the Grant County’s baseball team’s momentum May 21 with the Braves up 2-0 on Walton Verona in the fourth inning.

    When the district tournament game resumed May 23, Walton rallied to win 3-2 and end the season for the Braves.

    The Grant County Braves hosted county rival Williamstown in a key District 32 matchup on Wednesday, May 2, and had to overcome a five run deficit in the sixth inning to capture a 10-9 victory.

    The Grant County Braves baseball team hosted the Owen County Rebels on April 30, and blanked the Rebels 12-0 in a five-inning game.

    Hoyt Plunkett, the lone senior on the Braves’ squad, pitched five innings of no-hit baseball.
