Colson named to EKU Dean’s List

    Riley Colson, a 2011 graudate of Grant County High School, made the Dean’s List for the fall semester of 2012 with a GPA of 3.80.
    She is a sophomore at Eastern Kentucky University and is majoring in Spanish.
    Colson is the daughter of Arnold and Gemella Colson of Corinth.

  • Grant County Middle School Select Band students

    After months of preparation, 35 Grant County Middle School students traveled to Summit View Middle School in Independence recently to audition for the district six Northern Kentucky Middle School Select Band. 

    Hundreds of students from 15 middle schools in Northern Kentucky prepared music and attended the event to audition for the coveted seats.   

  • Grant County High School Select Band students

    The Grant County High School music program has set a new school record, as 25 of its students were chosen for the 2013 Northern Kentucky Select Band ensembles.

    The Northern Kentucky District six Select Band auditions took place at Summitview Middle School on Jan. 12, with 35 GCHS students auditioning for the seats. These students were among hundreds of students from all area high schools auditioning for seats in either of two ensembles that represents Northern Kentucky’s most talented high school musicians.    

  • Spratt wins National Geography Bee

    Benjamin Spratt, a sixth grader at Grant County Middle School, won the school competition for the National Geography Bee. Students throughout the building competed in this competition by answering a variety of questions on geography.

    Spratt competed against seventh and eighth graders. Spratt will complete a written test to qualify for the state championship on April 5 in Bowling Green.

    Only the top 100 scores on the qualifying test are invited to attend this championship. Spratt is the son of Michael and Kim Spratt.

  • Owings named Alumni Ambassador at EKU

    Natalie  Owings of  Crittenden has been selected as a Student Alumni Ambassador at Eastern Kentucky University. Owings is majoring in psychology at EKU.
    Members of Eastern’s SAA chapter, whose main objective is service to the university, often serve as hosts at various campus and alumni events. Ambassadors lead tours of campus and often meet with prospective students on campus and at recruitment events throughout Kentucky and beyond, and are involved with numerous other service and philanthropic events.

    The Grant County Braves showed up ready for district play against the Walton Verona Bearcats on Jan. 5.

    “We knew this game was going to be a battle and being a district game we needed to put up a win,” said Braves Coach Jim Hicks.
    Despite the Bearcats’ good defensive and offensive  from the first ball drop until the end of regulation play, the Braves fought hard and brought home a 66-54 win.
