    Williamstown-Grant Preschool
    sets open enrollment

    The Grant County-Williamstown Head Start/Preschool will have open enrollment for the 2013-2014 school year from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. by appointment only. The dates are April 18, April 23, April 25, April 30 and May 2. Eligibility is determined by state and federal guidelines. Universal screening for all children. For more information, contact the program at 824-4174.

    The Grant County Middle School students recently showed their skills at the GCMS Talent Show.

    The performing artists included dance, gymnastics, singing, guitar playing and the drums in their routines. The winners were:

    • Entertainer of the Year (Top
    Performance) – Shane Drew

    • Singing Solo– Haley Bryan
    Second place – Alvin Morris
    Third place – Tie  Devany Stroude and Carley Renee Thomas

  • GCMS students learn science is entertaining, useful

    The Grant County Middle School the annual science fair and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineeering and Mathematics) night recently. The goal was to incorporate science, technology, engineering and math and to inform the students of careers that have some of those elements in them and to engage the students in activities in each area.

    Williamstown teachers, staff and even a few students got technologically advanced as part of Digital Learning Day.
    The national campaign that shines a spotlight on successful instructional practice and effective use of technology in classrooms took place Feb. 6.

    Williamstown teachers, staff and even a few students got technologically advanced as part of Digital Learning Day.
    The national campaign that shines a spotlight on successful instructional practice and effective use of technology in classrooms took place Feb. 6.
    To participate, Williamstown Independent Schools took part in a QR code scavenger hunt throughout the school using an Ipad to learn new digital teaching tools.

    Colton Carpenter  
    Colton Carpenter is the WES Headstart a.m. Student of the Week. He is in Pam Mullin’s and Janet Griffith’s class. “Colton loves to write stories and draws the pictures to go with them. He then reads them to the class,” Mullins said.
    His favorite thing about school is making friends and playing. His favorite book is ‘The Cat In The Hat’. His favorite thing to do as a family is go to the park.

    Jordan Clark, of Crittenden, a student at Grant County High School has been selected to represent Kentucky as a National Youth Delegate at the 2013 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment at George Mason University.

  • CHANDLER NAMED YPA WINNER

    Olivia Chandler is the Williamstown High School Youth Performance Award winner for March.
    She is a senior at WHS and is the daughter of Kristy Dunaway and William Chandler.

    Extra-curricular activities: I play in pep band, concert band and am a former member of the marching band.
    Community involvement: I am a faithful member of the Williamstown Baptist Church and participate on the youth missions’ activities. I am also a member of the National Honor Society and the Future Farmers of America.
