• James Cook, 92

    James Woodrow Cook, 92, of Williamstown, formerly of Owen County, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, in Williamstown.

    Survivors include his wife, Viola Abbott Cook; daughters, Shirley F. Wilson and Brenda J. Fornash, both of Dry Ridge; a son, James “Kenny” Cook of Pinellas Park, Fla.; a sister, Opal Jean Reading of Louisville; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

    Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. April 23 at the Elliston Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown.

  • Leona Jump, 102

    Leona Belle Roberts Jump, 102, of Walton, died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at the Baptist Convalescent Center of Newport.

    Survivors include her daughters, Juliana Shields and Bonnie Woods, both of Walton; two grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

    Funeral services were held April 14 at Walton First Baptist Church.

    Burial was in Walton Cemetery.

    Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Walton handled the arrangements.

  • Gilbert Halberstadt, 87

    Gilbert Lawrence Halberstadt, 87, of Corinth, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at his residence.

    Survivors include a son, Gary L. Halberstadt of Independence; a daughter, Linda D. Cleek of Independence; sisters, Melba Berry of Ripley, Ohio and Nancy Jane Sallee of Union; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

    Funeral services were held April 23 at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home and a graveside service at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Taylor Mill.

  • Rhea Kennedy, 56

    Rhea Lee Kennedy, 56, of Crittenden, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at the University Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

    Survivors include her husband Ronald Kennedy of Dry Ridge; her mother, Marcella Lawrence Lillard of Dry Ridge; son, Ben Harwood of Ft. Mitchell; sister, Sandra L. Taylor of Dry Ridge and one grandchild.

    Funeral services were held April 28 at the Crittenden Baptist Church.

    Burial was in the Hill Crest Cemetery in Dry Ridge.

  • Paul Jones, 80

    Paul Allen Jones, 80, of Corinth, died Friday, April 16, 2010, at his residence.

    Survivors include his daughters, Lora Nicholas of Stamping Ground, Linda Swanson of Denver, Colo., Dorothy Zimmerman of Georgetown and Paula Groulx of Raleigh, N.C.;  eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

    Graveside services were April 19 at the New Columbus Cemetery in Owen County.  


  • Varner, newborns

    Blaine Hisle Varner and Jamie Hisle Varner, newborn twins, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, shortly after their birth at the Georgetown Community Hospital.

    Survivors include their parents, Kristian Hisle and Levi Varner of Williamstown; grandparents, Brandy Hisle of Williamstown, Sean Brown of Lebanon, Ky., Laura Varner of Corinth and Scott Varner of Ohio and  great grandparents, Cheryl Hisle and Wayne Hisle of Williamstown.

    Graveside services were held April 24 at the Corinth Cemetery.

    McDaniel Funeral Home in Corinth handled the arrangements.

  • Ada Hammond, 94

    Ada Hammond, 94, of Corinth, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Williamstown.

    Survivors include a daughter, Kay Evans of Corinth; a son, Zemer K. Hammond of Corinth; a son-in-law, Donald Dixon of Ohio; a sister: Pearl Hunter of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Marvin Mason of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

    Funeral services were held April 11 at McDaniel Funeral Home in Corinth.

    Burial was in the Corinth Cemetery.

  • Luther Crouch, 85

    Luther E. Crouch, 85, of Florence, died Monday, April 5, 2010, at the Florence Park Care Center.

    Survivors include his wife, Irene Crouch; his sons, Kenneth L. Crouch of Bryan, Ohio and Donald J. Crouch of Walton; a daughter, Linda Lower of Florence; a brother, James A. Crouch of Erlanger; a sister, Janet Scroggins of Crittenden; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

    Funeral services were held April 10 at Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home in Dry Ridge.

    Burial was in the Crittenden Cemetery.


  • Shelia Dowell, 45

    Sheila Arnold Dowell, 45, of Elsmere, died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

    Survivors include her husband of 28 years, Gentry Dowell; her mother, Shirley Ann Arnold of Covington; a son, Brian Keith Dowell of Covington; daughters, Missie Lynn Dowell and Shirley Elizabeth Dowell, both of Covington; brothers, Tommy Arnold, Junior Arnold, James Arnold and Danny Arnold, all of Covington; sisters, Pat Martini of Florence and Jenny Frost of Independence and seven grandchildren.

  • Ebbie Spicer, 82

    Ebbie Bush Spicer, 82, of Verona, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood.

    Survivors include her sons, Lourel “Buddy” Spicer of Crittenden, David Spicer of Richwood and Lenny Spicer of Corinth; her daughters, Ada Gross of Verona, Edith Biddle of Glencoe, Virginia Mullins Porter and Deborah Lothridge, both of Napoleon and Coleen Bailey of Glencoe; her brothers, Delbert Bush of Owenton and Lucien Bush of Owenton; a sister June Deaton of Corinth; 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
