DAR presents Byrne, Kinsey with awards

The Captain John Lillard Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution met April 18 the Williamstown Senior Center. During that meeting, the chapter held an award ceremony. The chapter handed out two awards to exceptional students.

The chapter awarded the Bronze ROTC Medal to Katrina Byrne. The medal is given to the outstanding student in the ROTC Program. Byrne is a junior at Grant County High School with a 3.5 GPA. She is the daughter of Dennis and Michelle Byrne. She is active in sports, dance and volunteering in her community and with her church, Mt. Olivet Christian Church. She is part of the Raider team and going to JROTC Leadership Camp.

She feels that her success in these activities is partly because of the confidence and support of Commander Sgt. Major Charles Duffee and First Sgt. Steven Pritchett. 
Catherine Monk, chapter National Defense chairman, and Robin Menefee, chapter regent, presented Byrne with the Bronze ROTC Medal and certificate.

Caroline Hope Kinsey was awarded the chapter DAR Good Citizen Scholarship. 
She is a senior at Williamstown High School with a 3.9 GPA. She is the daughter of Mark and Julie Kinsey. She is active in choir, student council, Fellowship of Christian athletes, National Honor Society and volunteering in her community and at Williamstown Baptist Church.

She plans on attending Georgetown College and pursuing a sociology degree. Julie Schuller, chapter good citizen chairman, and Robin Menefee presented Kinsey with the good citizen pin, certificate and scholarship.
In addition, to receiving the chapter award she received first place in the fifth district division.
