  • Miskell headed to state

    Cody Miskell wrestled his way to the state tournament last weekend with a win in the heavy weight division over Newport, Ryle and Dixie Heights.

    Miskell, a senior at Grant County High School, had no losses in the regional tournament on Feb. 8 and Feb. 9. He’s the first Grant County wrestler to place number one at regionals.
    He will be the only wrestler from GCHS to move on to state competition on Feb. 15 and Feb. 16 at the Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park.

  • Braves take down Wildcats

    The Grant County Braves traveled to Pendleton County on Feb. 5  to take on the Wildcats.

    The Braves beat the Wildcats by a score of 72-48.
    Coach Jim Hicks said his team would have to be tough from a mental  and a physical stand point.
    “We need to keep Mason Monroe contained and keep him from scoring,” Hicks said.

    “We know from the get go we are not going to get any calls our way so we need to play hard.,” he added.

  • Grant Braves roll over Bellevue...

    The Grant County Braves dominated the basketball court Feb. 7 against the Bellevue Tigers.

    They eventually won the game 69-27.

    The Braves shot 48.2 percent from the field and 35 percent  from the three-point line, with 71.4 percent of their free throws hitting the mark.

    The Braves were able to control the tempo of the game from the opening tip to the end of regulation play.

  • Lady Demons dominate Lexington...

     

    The Williamstown Lady Demons are winding down their regular season as a strong and united team that are sure to be a threat in upcoming seasons as the young players further develop in the off season.

    The Lady Demons faced Sayre on Jan. 31 at home in a game that Williamstown dominated in the second half, leaving Sayre unable to catch up.

  • Demons stay close with Gallatin...

    The Williamstown Demons faced the Gallatin County Wildcats on Jan. 28 at home in a fast-paced game, which demonstrated the hard work that the team has put toward improving their fundamentals on the court.
    The Demons and Wildcats played furiously in the first half, running the court and battling for the possession arrow. In the second half, the Demons were able to seize the lead for the first time in the game before Gallatin County pulled ahead slightly before the half.
    At halftime, the Demons trailed by only four points with a score of 28-24.

  • LADY DEMONS BEAT PENDLETON, WEST...

    As their season begins to wind down, the Williamstown Lady Demons continue to work on fundamentals in the hopes of ending strong and playing competitively in the upcoming district tournament. The team has won their last two games, defeating West Jessamine and Pendleton County.
    The Lady Demons played strong in their home game with West Jessamine on Jan. 26 and gained an early lead against the Lady Colts, resulting in a 72-54 win.
    On Jan. 28, the Lady Demons faced the Pendleton County Lady Wildcats, playing a hot first half, which led to a 20 point lead at halftime.

  • Demons search for win

    The Williamstown Demons varsity basketball team continues to struggle to win their third game as the season begins to wind down.

    On Jan. 24, the Demons faced the Trimble County Raiders in the hopes of adding a win to their season record, but lost 66-48.

    The Demons played the first half of their game against Trimble County with the effort and intensity of a championship team. When the Demons tied the game 20-20 in the second quarter, the team and fans erupted in a level of excitement that has been scarce this season.

  • GCHS wrestlers dual in Danville

    The GCHS Braves wrestling team has gotten noticed with a first place finish at the Cooper High School Invitational, followed by a second place finish at the Danville Duals and a fifth place finish at the Capital City Classic.

    The team is focused on the regional tournament Feb. 8 and Feb. 9 at the Kentucky Horse Park.

    The top three teams will move onto state competition.
    The team is coached by Matt Shearer.

  • Lady Braves fall to St. Henry

    The Lady Braves hosted St. Henry Jan. 24 hoping to come out with a victory on their home court, but instead fell victim to the Lady Crusaders.

    The Lady Braves lost by a score of 59 – 46.

    The Lady Braves just could not get things to go their way as St.

    Henry kept coming hard and strong for the entire game.
    Coach Shawn West said before the game began that St. Henry was a scraping team.

    “We should be the better talented team,” he said.
