  • WHS Band of Spirit places first...

    Name of competition: 2014 Blue and Gold Championship of Marching Bands at Morehead State University.

    Location and date: Sept. 27 at Morehead State University

    Ranking and any awards:  The Band of Spirit received first place in Class A along with the Best Colorguard in Class A during preliminary competition. Paris was second and Raceland was third. Overall, the Band of Spirit placed fifth in the preliminary competition out of 20 competing bands with a score of 76.05.


    It wasn’t a happy Homecoming for the Grant County High School Braves as the football team fell to Walton-Verona.
    The 35-14 defeat was the third consecutive loss for GCHS and drops the team’s record to 1-3-1.


    The Grant County High School hosted the annual Dry Ridge Toyota Cup soccer tournament. The boys bracket featured the Braves, Conner High School, Gallatin and Powell County. The girls bracket consisted of the Lady Braves, Boone, Lincoln and Spencer County.
    In the boys first round Conner beat up on Powell 7-0. The Braves took on Gallatin. The Braves came into play on Saturday with a record of 6-1, riding the crest of six straight wins, including three straight over regional opponents Henry, Owen and district rival Simon Kenton.

  • GCHS soccer teams host DR Toyota...

    The Grant County High School soccer program will try to protect their home turf Sept. 20 as the teams compete in the annual Dry Ridge Toyota Invitational Cup.

    The tournament will feature GCHS boys and girls teams playing in two games each at Grant County Middle School in a quest to take home the title.

  • Braves football lose...

    Missed opportunities and costly penalties cost the Grant County a road win in a game they outplayed their opponent.
    In an offensive struggle, the Braves were held scoreless Sept. 13 and fell 6-0 to East Jessamine.
    Coach Kevin Siple said his team let a win get away.

  • GC Cross Country takes second...

    The Mason County Cross Country Invite brought cooler temperatures and faster times to Grant County’s Cross Country teams. A successful tone was established in the first race of the day as the girls’ varsity race began.
    From the start, Summer Dearing had made up her mind she was going to run her fastest time of the season. Sydney Parker and Dearing worked together throughout the race picking off runners. They stayed together until Dearing used her sprinting abilities to pull away at the end, finishing four seconds ahead of Parker (21:23 ), running a strong 21:27.


    The Grant County Braves Boys Golf team played with fierce determination on Sept. 8 when the team won against Pendleton and Owen counties with a score of 158. Pendleton had a score of 183 and Owen had a score of 181.

    The first Kentucky Qualifiers for Drive, Chip and Putt Championship took place recently in Lexington at the Lakeside Golf Course.
