  • Lady Demons look to end Grant...

On one end of the basketball floor will be a first-time coach. On the other is a veteran.

That's just the beginning of the differences between the Williamstown and Grant County girls' basketball teams who will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 14 at Grant County High School.

The Lady Braves have won six straight games in the rivalry, but Williamstown head coach Mark Wilhoit knows it's a matter of time before his team is back on the winning side.

For Williamstown head girls' basketball coach Mark Wilhoit, Monday's 57-32 setback at Sayre was one for the ages.

"I have never been so disappointed. We just went through the motions," said Wilhoit, who watched his team fall to 1-3 on the season heading into Friday's road clash with cross-town rival Grant County.

Sayre jumped out to a 31-2 halftime advantage, holding the Lady Demons without a field goal.

  • Teams say rebounding, defense...

Grant County girls' basketball player Sarah Johnson knows what is at stake when the Lady Braves roll out the red carpet for cross-town rival Williamstown at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 14th.

Johnson missed last year's game with a knee injury, however, she is part of a three-member senior class to never lose to the Lady Demons. Grant County has won six straight games in the rivalry.

  • Williamstown thumps Grant County...

As a player at Grant County High School Dustin Plunkett won many big games for the Braves inside their gymnasium.

On Dec. 8, Plunkett won one more, but this time he did so as the junior varsity coach for the Williamstown Demons.

Plunkett watched his team build a 29-23 halftime edge and completely run past the Braves en route to netting a 63-42 victory.

"It was definitely a different feeling going in as a coach instead of a player and going in with Williamstown instead of Grant County," said Plunkett, who watched his team improve to 3-2 on the season.
