  • Lady Braves off to a slow start

The Grant County Lady Braves softball team is off to a slow start.
After all the rain and snow outs, the season is getting underway.
The softball squad has played five games on the season and their record is 1-4.  The Lady Braves lost a hard fought contest on March 17 against Ryle by the score of 9-4.
Alayna Barnes took the mound for the Braves allowing 10 hits and nine walks during the contest. She also had two strikeouts.

  • Demons downed in districts

The Williamstown Demons boy’s basketball team gave it all they had against Simon Kenton on Feb. 23, but came up on the short end of the score, losing 85-70 to the home team in the District 32 matchup.
It was a big turnaround from their previous meeting with the Pioneers where the Demons fell at home by a 23-point deficit.
WHS Coach Harden Roger heaped praise upon his young team for their tenacity.  “They have a never quit attitude,” he said. “We’ve instilled that in them all year long to never quit.”

  • Braves lose to Colonels

The Grant County Boys basketball team’s season came to an end March 9 when the Braves lost to Oldham County 70-48 in Region 8 action at Henry County High School.

The night began when the hopeful Braves jumped out to an early 5-2 lead.
But that would be it for the scoring in the first quarter for Grant.
The Braves would go 5:30 minutes without scoring another basket and trailed 15-5 after one quarter.

  • Braves down Shelby to win...

When it counted the Grant County Braves were able to turn to their seniors as they beat Shelby County 55-47 in the opening round of the 8th Region Tournament on March 7.
“We’re a senior-dominated team this year and they came through when we needed them,” Grant County coach Brandon Grammer said. “We played a very good game today against a good team.”

  • Braves win back-to-back district...

The Grant County Braves went into the Feb. 27 game against Simon Kenton with the goal of winning their second 32nd District championship in a row.
They came away with a 67-54 win and avenged an earlier loss to the Pioneers.
Back-to-back district championships had not been accomplished by a Braves team in 25 years dating back to the 1988-1989 season.
The Braves moved on to play March 4 against Shelby County in the regional tournament at Henry County High School.

  • Lady Demons lose in district...

The Williamstown Lady Demons entered the District 32 matchup with Walton Verona with ideas of upsetting the Lady Bearcats.
They came up short of that goal losing 65-57 at Simon Kenton High School on Feb. 24.

Both teams exchanged baskets throughout a first quarter that ended with a tie score of 13-13.
The Bearcats jumped out early to a 6-2 lead.

Post player Zoe Luebbe had several offensive rebounds early on where she was fouled.
