    The senior members of the Grant County High School baseball team remembered their emotions following last year's two losses to 32nd District rival Williamstown.

    There were some tears, but mostly just a big empty, hollow feeling.

    On Monday evening, the roles were reversed as Grant County extracted revenge on the Demons, roughing up five pitchers and pounding out 12 hits en route to a 10-0 six inning victory at Williamstown.

    The victory was the first for Grant County since the 2006 season.

    Jack Gatlin recalls vividly the first time he saw Bill Keightley.

    As a child, Gatlin would watch University of Kentucky basketball games on TV and watch as Keightley would sit next to then coach Joe B. Hall.

    Several years later, as a student at the University of Kentucky, Gatlin would see him around campus, but it wasn't until a cold, blustery winter day that the two actually met.

    The time away from the court made her stronger and she took full advantage of her final season, leading the Lady Braves in scoring, assists, steals and minutes played.

  • Lady Demons, Lady Braves square...

    The rosters may change and coaches may come and go, but one constant during softball season is when Grant County and Williamstown square off, the games are intense as bragging rights and district seeds are on the line each time.

    Williamstown hosts Grant County on April 10. The first pitch is slated for 5:30 p.m. The two teams will square off again at 5 p.m. on April 15 at Grant County.

  • Demons hit slide in Florida

    In case they needed any reminder they were headed to Florida for baseball first and a vacation second, the Williamstown baseball team's early setbacks in the Cocoa Expo in Cocoa Beach, Fla., combined with several practices is bound to serve as a reminder.

    The Demons, who earned victories over Walton-Verona and Heritage Academy prior to leaving for the Sunshine State, opened their Florida experience with a loss to a team from Pennsylvania that finished runner-up in the state tournament. Williamstown fell behind 4-0 early in the game, before losing 11-3.

    Since she was 2-years-old and followed her father around Eagle Creek Country Club, Alicia Lawrence knew that she would be involved in the game of golf.

    Her involvement has paid off as Lawrence has not only had success on the course, but she has enjoyed various experiences off the links as well.

    "I love it, and it has been an experience," Lawrence says of her golf career.

  • Weather continues to hamper Lady...

    Marlin Gregg is faced with a possible dilemma that is out of his control as his team prepares for its trip to Alabama.

    Should this week's games at Highlands and Owen County be postponed due to weather, it would be approximately six days since Gregg and his Grant County softball team saw the field against an opponent.

    "I was really wanting to get a game in before we left," said Gregg, whose team hits the road for the Huntsville Hospital Sports Center Tournament this week.

  • Grant County baseball team wants...

    Grant County High School baseball coach Van Duncan knew what he was doing when he made the schedule, which featured games against Harrison County and Gallatin County, in addition to seven consecutive away games to open the season.

    "I wanted our team to be tested and ready once we got into the district portion of our schedule," Duncan said.

    Two games into the season, the experiment has come with mixed results for the Braves, who lost 13-4 to Harrison County and defeated Gallatin County 4-3 last week.
