    On Aug. 6, 2002, Chris Breeden’s life changed forever.

    Breeden was involved in a single-vehicle accident while riding his motorcycle on Knoxville Road. He was in a drug-induced coma for two weeks after the accident. When he awoke, he found out he had shattered both of his femurs, had a compound fracture below his right knee, had broken his back, neck, jaw, nose, eye socket, had cracked his skull and tore nerves out of his spinal cord, leaving his right arm paralyzed.

    Breeden was in the hospital for 31 days.

  • West sets school record for...

    With eight assists in the Lady Demons’ season opener against West Jessamine, Williamstown junior Chelsea West set a school record.

    West, who has played at the varsity level since she was in seventh grade, surpassed Carol Robins’ school record that had stood for 19 years.

    The previous record was 449 and West now stands alone with 454.

  • Cat Attack 11-22-09

    Have any of you seen our defense, particularly our perimeter defense?  If so please return it to Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky attention Coach John Calipari and every Kentucky Wildcats player.  If that doesnít work, maybe all of Big Blue Nation can ask for some defense for Christmas this year? I sure hope Santa Clause is a Kentucky fan.

  • Cat Attack 11-21-09

    That large exhale you hear is the entire Big Blue Nation after Kentucky’s 72-70 last second victory on Monday night. The Cats didn’t dodge a bullet, they somehow managed to escape a heat-seeking missile. If the rest of the season is that exciting the entire state of Kentucky is going to need a Cardiologist, because I know my heart stopped several times during the last five minutes of the game. Fortunately, John Wall stepped up and sent his popularity to an all time high, if it’s possible to be higher, hitting the game-winning jumper with 0.5 seconds left.

  • Cat Attack 11-20-09

    The Kentucky Wildcats opened the regular season Friday night against the Morehead State Eagles in Rupp Arena.  The big story going into the game was not the beginning of the Calipari era or the kickoff of what should be an amazing season, but rather the absence of one John Wall from the lineup.  For the first twenty minutes that story line seemed very fitting, but the second half turned out to be all about fellow freshman Eric Bledsoe who helped carry the Cats to their first victory of the season 75-59.

  • GCHS boys’ finish 15th...

    Their goal of finishing in the top 10 at the state meet is still one they will have to work for, but the Grant County boys’ cross country team keeps improving from year to year.

    The boys had set a goal to finish as one of the top 10 teams in the AAA, but ended up finishing 15th on Nov. 14. The Braves were 60 points away from ending their season in the top 10.

    In 2007, the boys finished 20th and in 2008, the boys finished 17th.

  • Bradford, Harris compete at state

    When Williamstown runners Steven Bradford and Drew Harris stood on the starting line of the state meet, they knew they were racing for themselves.

    Without a team, they were racing as individuals, competing for personal bests and individual accomplishments.

    Bradford, who is a junior, finished 53rd, despite battling dehydration. This is his second straight year competing as an individual and in last year’s race, he also finished 53rd.

  • GCHS boys take second at region

    Heading into the regional meet, the Grant County boys’ cross country team was expecting to, at the very least, repeat their performance from last season and finish second.

    They knew that Conner, last season’s regional champion, was saving some runners for the state meet and thought they could come away with a surprising regional championship.

    After running their race, they didn’t realize how close they came to relinquishing second in the region, finishing behind Conner and ahead of Campbell County by three points on Nov. 7.

  • GCHS’ season ends with...

    The Grant County High School football team has been led by their seniors all season, whether it was in the weight room, in practice or during games.

    With their final game of the season, the Braves honored them at halftime of their game against West Jessamine.

    Unfortunately, the Braves weren’t able to send the seniors off with a win, falling 36-8 on Oct. 30.

  • Bradford, Harris qualify for...

    Steven Bradford, a junior at Williamstown, expected to qualify for state, whether it was as an individual or as a member of his team.

    Drew Harris, an eighth grader, found out he had a chance to make it to state with a mile left in the race.

    Bradford and Harris each earned a spot in the state meet, qualifying as individuals and leading the Demons to a seventh place finish, one spot away from qualifying as a team.
