  • Gone fishin'

    The Kincaid Bassmasters fished a 12 hour night on Williamstown Lake, Aug. 21. Forty-one anglers came out on the lake from the Williamstown Marina. On Aug. 22, the fishermen brought in 86 fish that weighed a total of 127.36 pounds.

  • Cummins places 15 under the...

    Where: Centerville High School

    What: Senior Jordan Cummins ran to a 15th place finish in the Adidas Saturday Night Lights V. Overall, the team placed 15th as well out of 21 teams.

    Upcoming: The Braves cross-country team will go to Louisville, Oct. 2, to run in the Greater Louisville race at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.

  • Playing ball in the fall

Gray plays for the Grant County Riverdogs, a U-9 Fall League team for Kentucky Amateur Baseball Association. The Riverdogs play their games up in Florence.   • GCMS edges out Williamstown

    When: Sept. 23

    Where: Grant County Middle School

    What: The Lady Braves middle school volleyball team defeated their county rival in three sets, to avenge a loss to the Lady Demons earlier in the season.

    Upcoming: For Grant County, the Lady Braves will play Woodland at home Sept. 30, before prepping for the junior varsity tournament, Oct. 4.

  • Demons get hard fought win

    Score: 2-0 W

    When: Sept. 23

    Where: Gallatin County High School

    What: The Lady Demons get closer to .500 record, edging out Gallatin County (25-20, 26-24) in two sets to move to 9-10 on the year.

    Upcoming: Williamstown will prep for the Fillies Fall Fling at Harrison County Oct. 2, as they will take on Deming at 11 a.m.  The Lady Demons have one more home game, as senior night will be Oct. 5 against Calvary Christian. Game time is 7 p.m.

  • Demons run to 17th place finish

    Where: Covington Catholic Invitational

    What: The Demons finished in 17th place in the Covington Catholic Invitational, Sept. 18. The top runner for Williamstown was freshman Drew Harris, who finished in 69th place overall with a time of 20:20.5, just behind Grant County junior Danny Hess (20:20.5).

    Upcoming: The Demons will race in the Hillbilly Run, Sept. 25 in Bardstown. After that race, Williamstown will race in the North Central Kentucky Conference meet, Sept. 28 at Walton-Verona.

  • Soccer teams fall in Invite

    Both Grant County soccer teams fell in their respective championship games, Sept. 18 at the second annual Dry Ridge Toyota Invitational.

    On the boys’ side, the Braves (8-4) fell to tournament champion Conner 1-0.

    “We didn’t have a lot of opportunities to score,” Braves coach Clay Mattingly said. “We looked tired and didn’t give the kind of effort that I am used to seeing from our guys. I thought that Conner wanted the win more and it showed with the effort they gave.”

  • Braves split first four games

    Grant County football coach Mike Davis has felt since the football team received their schedule, that the first four home games were like preseason games to prepare them for district play.

    The Braves (2-2) split their first four games, as Grant County fell to Western Hills (2-2) 18-10, Sept. 17.

  • Fireballs compete in state...

    The Grant County Fireballs played in the state softball tournament, Sept. 10-12 in Bowling Green. The Fireballs only played one game and lost. The tournament was to be a double-elimination tournament, but due to the weather the tournament was cut down to single-elimination. The Fireballs had advanced to the state tournament after claiming the gold medal in the regional tournament in Frankfort Aug. 14.

  • Cummins wins Cov. Cath Invite

    Where: Covington Catholic Invitational

    What: Grant County senior runner Jordan Cummins won the race with a time of 17:04. As a team, the Braves placed fourth in the meet behind Lexington Catholic, Covington Catholic, and Cincinnati St. Xavier.

    Upcoming: The Braves will race in the Scott County Cardinal Classic in Georgetown, Sept. 23, before heading to Centerville, Ohio for the Adidas Saturday Night Lights V, Sept. 25.
