  • GIRLS ON THE RUN

This fall girls from Crittenden Mt. Zion Elementary have been training to complete the Girls on the Run 5K.

The race took place at Sawyer Point on Nov. 16.
Twelve runners participated with their running buddies to finish the eighth season of Girls on the Run in Grant County. Since 2010, 325 girls have participated in the program.

In 2013, the program received over $9,900 in regional scholarship funds directly benefitting participants in Grant County. Grant County Parks and Recreation coordinates the program locally.

Winning breeds winning. And Williamstown High School boys’ basketball coach Roger Harden knows this  well. So it would be understandable if the second- year head coach lightened the schedule for his program in an attempt to win more games.
But the former University of Kentucky standout is having none of that, insisting that playing the best of the best is the way to return the Williamstown program to prominence in the 8th Region.

Averaging less than five wins per season over the last eight years, success for the Williamstown High School boys’ basketball program is a distant memory.

But it was only eight short years ago that the Demons were traditionally one of the better teams in their district and region, winning 17 games or more each year from 2002 through 2006 and turning in double-digit win seasons six times in a nine-year span.
