  • Lady Braves defeat Owen, make...

    A balanced scoring attack led the Grant County Lady Braves to making history March 3 by advancing to the program’s first-ever regional final after defeating Owen County in the semi-finals.
    It was the first time in 24 years the Lady Braves had made it to the regional semi-finals.

    “It’s big because the girls’ program hasn’t made it this far before, but it’s something we have wanted to do and talk about often,” Lady Braves Coach Shawn West said.

  • Grant’s postseason ends one step...

    The magical postseason run for the Grant County Lady Braves ended March 4 when they ran into a powerful Simon Kenton team.

    In a rematch of the 32nd district championship, the Lady Braves struggled to put up points and fell 69-22 to the Lady Pioneers.

    It was the third time this season Simon Kenton had defeated Grant, who lost 71-35 back in January and  65-35 in the district championship.
    Lady Braves Coach Shawn West said that the Lady Pioneers’ pressure and depth are what bothers his team the most.

  • Demons lose in regional battle

    The Williamstown Demons took on their nemesis for the year in Gallatin County on March 1 in the first round of 8th Region action at Henry County High School.

    The Demons lost for the third time this season to the Wildcats by the score of 58-53.  
    The Demons had to be disappointed in their endeavor to beat the Wildcats after winning their last game against them by four points at home just three weeks ago.

  • Lady Braves advance in regional...

    It has been 25 years since the Lady Braves basketball team has advanced to the second round of the regional tournament. This year’s team did the exact same thing when they took on a good team with a 24-4 record Trimble County on Feb. 28 at Oldham County High School.  The Lady Braves won that contest by the score of 64-53.

    Efficient offense and stifling defense led the Grant County Lady Braves to move past their cross-county rivals Williamstown 74-55 on Feb. 22 in the first round of the district tournament.

    Grant County moved on to face Simon Kenton in the district finals while the Lady Demons saw their season come to an end.
    The Lady Braves started out hot from beyond the arc as four first-quarter three pointers help propel them to a 16-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

  • Demons oust Braves in districts

    The Williamstown Demons, before a standing room only crowd, dispensed of the Grant County Braves in District play on Feb. 23.  

    In a fast-paced game, the Demons got off to a slow start and trailed the Braves for the first five minutes of the game.
    Trailing 11-8 with just 2:27 left to play in the first quarter, the Demons went on a 12-3 run to close out the first quarter of play leading 20-14.

  • Demons lose to Bearcats in...

    The Williamstown Demons hosted the Walton Verona Bearcats in the 32nd District championship on Feb. 25, and lost by the score of 67-48.

    The Demons jumped out to an early 5-0 lead behind a three-point bucket by senior Jon Jump and a bucket in the lane by Wenzee Fox.

    It took over four minutes for the Bearcats to get their first score of the game. That came after Fox fouled Jeremy Moran on a shot down the lane.  

  • Lady Pioneers out shoot Lady...

    Grant County played Simon Kenton in the 32nd District championship at Williamstown High School on Feb. 24.  

    The Lady Pioneers used the hot shooting from the three-point line by Bailee Harney in the third quarter to pull away from the Lady Braves in route to a 66-35 victory and a district championship.  

    The Lady Braves took the runner-up trophy and will move on to Region 8 play this week.
    The Lady Pioneers jumped out to an early 6-1 lead.
