    Grant County schools have partnered with Dr. Sandra Utter and Dr. Troy Ashcraft of St. Elizabeth Physicians to offer sports physicals for all Grant County student athletes. Dr. Utter will see athletes from 9 a.m. to noon on July 9 and Dr. Ashcraft will see athletes from 9 a.m. to noon on July 11.  The cost is $15 per athlete.   • Grant County Youth Basketball Signups

    When: Sept. 23
    What: Grant County High School Basketball coach Jim Hicks is registering students in grades 2-5 for Grant County Youth Basketball. The cost is $65 per player and the fee includes a game uniform. Make checks payable to Grant County Boy’s Youth Basketball. For more information, contact Jim Hicks at Grant County High School at (859)-824-9739 or on his cell phone at (602)-465-0624. There will be a special registration from 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 17 at Grant County High School.

  • Hudson siblings compete in Junior Olympics

    Halee Hudson threw for a personal best in javelin on Aug. 1 in New Orleans, La. at the 2011 AAU Junior Olympics. 

    Her distance was marked at 70.04 feet placing her 17th nationally in the youth girls age group (49 girls competed).

    Halee also placed 36th out of 70 girls in discus (74’11’’) and 38th out of 81 girls in shot put (32’ 4.75”).  A small percentage of participants qualified in multiple events and Halee qualified and performed well in three.

  • Bowhunters challange scheduled for Aug. 14

    Where: Lloyd Wildlife Management
    What: A bowhunters challange 3-D shoot will be heald on the archery range. Registration is from 9 a.m. until noon. Cost is $10. Six and under shoot for free. All scores will be in by 3:30 p.m. and there will be door pprizes, including money pay back for top finishers. For more information visit their website at www.nkyba.org or call (859) 384-1959.

  • A COACHES PERSPECTIVE ... Fireballs sweep the Incarnation softball tourney

    On July 30, the Grant County Fireballs – played in an invitational softball tournament in Louisville at Incarnation Church.  

    This is the third year they were invited to play.  I help coach the Fireballs, a B Division team, which is the lowest division.  

  • District Champions

    Grant County was down 14-7 when they came up for the last bat of the game in  
    the bottom of the 6th inning. They came back to beat the South Oldham (A)  
    team 15-14 to win the Championship.They received 1st place medals for their accomplishment. Tournament was held at Peggy Baker Park in Lagrange,  
    Kentucky.
