  • Blake Dills Player of Week

    Week 8 Player of the Week - Blake Dills was named the Braves Week 8 Player of the Week. Dills had three catches for 59 yards and one touchdown against Scott on Oct. 7. The award is sponsored by Carolyn Thomas Thompson State Farm Insurance.

  • Lady Braves fall to Owen County

    Minutes after watching Williamstown lose a heartbreaking defeat to Walton-Verona, the Grant County Lady Braves followed, dropping two sets to Owen County in the 32nd District Tournament Oct. 12.
    On the last play of the game that sealed the victory for Owen County, the ball was set by senior Paige Elliott, but instead of the ball going forwards, the ball went behind her landing on the ground. The game ended the high school volleyball careers of five seniors.

  • Braves soccer season is long, winding

    It was a long and winding road for the 2011 Grant County Braves soccer team. The season was full of ups and downs that started with week one.
    How would the team replace 11 seniors from last season’s 13-win season, a school record?
    Freshman and sophomores with no varsity experience, who were also learning the ropes with a new coach, the former junior varsity coach, had to step up.

  • Kellam finishes 20th at state golf tourney


    Sarah Kellam’s goal was to make it to the second day of the state golf tournament
    Kellam, a junior at Grant County High School, placed 20th in the 2011 Leachman/Buick/GMC/Cadillac KHSAA Girls State Tournament Oct. 7-8 in Bowling Green.
    Kellam shot a two-day total of 164, but Kellam believed she could have done better. Even her coach Marcus Camacho felt she could do better.

  • Lady Braves fall to Walton

    The cards weren’t on the table for the Grant County Lady Braves soccer team, as they lost the 23rd district tournament championship game to Walton-Verona 1-0 on Oct. 12 in Maysville.
    For senior defender Emily Tillman it was disappointing to see her last district tournament ending with a loss to a team Grant County beat 4-1 in the regular season.
    “It hit me before our game against Walton-Verona that this is my last time playing in the postseason for Grant County,” she said.

  • Lady Demons' regional dreams dashed by W-V


    One point is all that kept Williamstown from going to their third consecutive regional volleyball tournament appearance, as they lost in three sets to Walton-Verona, Oct. 12 at Grant County High School.
    It was a match that most would have picked the Lady Bearcats as the favorites to win, but the Lady Demons gave them a game, challenging them by winning the first set 25-20, forcing Walton-Verona to win the next two sets or becoming the upset win Williamstown needed to get back to regionals.

  • Butler finishes running career


    For five of the past six years, Williamstown senior Katie Butler has been a member of the cross country team.
    On Oct. 8, she experienced her last race on the course she called home, as she placed 42nd in the race with a time of 26:15.14, a time she wasn’t necessarily pleased with.
    “It’s bittersweet,” she said. “I am happy that I am getting older and that I am still running, but this is my last year and not having a good season, but I am still enjoying my time.”

  • Lady Demons set sights on regional return

    It will be an uphill battle for Williamstown, but the Lady Demons will prepare for a chance at a third consecutive regional appearance, as they defeated Gallatin County in the first round of the 8th Region 32nd District tournament Oct. 11.

    With the tournament just down the road at Grant County High School, Williamstown will not have to worry about a long bus ride to the tournament, however they do have a long road ahead if they want to go back to the regional tournament.

  • Girl’s soccer wants district title

    The Lady Braves accomplished their first goal in getting to the regional tournament.

    The Lady Braves defeated Mason County 4-0 in the first round of the 23rd District Tournament Oct. 10 at St. Patrick’s in Maysville.

    For senior Kristin Keeton the opportunity to go back in her final season will be heartfelt. Her mother has been battling lymphoma and has only been to a couple of games.

    Keeton would like to see the Lady Braves not only make it to regional, but come away as district champs.

  • Boy’s soccer has tough road at districts

    The season hasn’t been the easiest for the Braves Boy’s soccer team this season.

    Grant County lost 11 seniors and eight starters from last year’s team and their coach.

    This season now goes from playing with a 1-14 record, to facing Pendleton County, after they defeated Walton-Verona Oct. 10, 2-0, in the 12th Region District 23 tournament.
