  • Lady Braves prep for Lady Cats

    After falling to Simon Kenton late in the game on Jan. 6, the Lady Braves will look to rebound against Henry County Jan. 14 at Grant County High School.

    “We were up a point to start the fourth quarter, but we just ran out of gas,” Lady Braves coach Darrell Guffey said.

  • Braves outlast Demons 64-60

    The game was nothing like the 87-41 defeat that the Demons were handed by Grant County last month, but it still was a loss as Grant County beat Williamstown 64-60 Jan. 4.

    A highlight for the Demons was the stellar play from junior guard Jake McKinley, who scored a career-high 30 points.

    The Williamstown boys' basketball game for tonight at Gallatin County has been cancelled. No makeup game has been scheduled at this time.

    Where: Lloyd Memorial High School
    What: The Braves struggles continued after losing two close games at the Capitol City Invitational at Western Hills High School, only managing one win over the break, defeating Whitham-Hanson Regional, MA 52-29, Dec. 29.
    Upcoming: The Braves will have a tough test on the road as they will gear up for Walton-Verona Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
    Lloyd Memorial Invitational: 61-56 L, Campbell Co., 74-51 L, Boone Co., 52-29 W, Whitham-Hanson Regional, MA, 72-29 L, Bishop Brossart.

    Danny McMahon led the way for Grant County Braves, scoring 26 points and dishing out 10 assists as Grant County defeated Williamstown 83-61. Jamie Courtney added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Braves.

    The year of 2010 had some eventful moments in sports here in Grant County. Here is a sample of some of the top stories in sports.

    JANUARY

    • Tori Wilhoit grabs her 1,000th career rebound for Williamstown.
    • George Eldridge, Steve Howe, Carl Wenderoth and Bradie Bowen inducted into the Grant County Hall of Fame.

  • Lady Braves’ get hard fought win over Newport

    The game looked more like a cage match than a basketball game as the Lady Braves defeated the Newport 39-23 Dec. 27 in their first game of the Grant County Invitational.

  • Braves kicker plays in Best of the Bluegrass

    Not many people in Grant County can say they have played in a high school all-star football game, but for senior kicker Preston Cahill it was a game he enjoyed  participating in.

    “I was honored to be a part of it,” he said. “It was a prestigious game and I was honored to represent Grant County High School.”

    Cahill was one of two kickers in the state to play in the Best of the Bluegrass Dec. 12 in Louisville at St. Xavier High School.

  • Mills signs to play soccer at Union College

    After playing his senior year for the Grant County Braves, Dustin Mills will play collegiate soccer at Union College.

    For Mills, it’s a dream come true.

    “Union has a good soccer program,” he said. “The coaches are great, the area is great. Everything is just close down there.”

  • West nails shot, seals win for Lady Demons

    The girls’ county rival game between Williamstown and Grant County felt like March Madness, as Lady Demons senior point guard Chelsea West hit a three-pointer with 20 seconds remaining to lift Williamstown over Grant County  46-45, Dec. 17.

    “It was the one we needed,” West said after the game. “I didn’t shoot well the whole game, but that was the one that we needed.”
