  • Coaches don sneakers for cancer

The Williamstown Lady Demons swept the season series over Grant County 69-49 Jan. 24 at Grant County High School, during the first of three Coaches vs. Cancer events.

The admission price for the game was increased by a dollar, with that money going to the Grant County Relay for Life.

The game brought awareness to cancer and the coaches donned tennis shoes for the game to pay homage to cancer survivors and those who have fallen to cancer.
Lady Demons coach Mark Wilhoit talked to his players in the locker room before the game about cancer patients.

  • Braves look to end offensive woes at home

The Braves will look to rebound after losing the past two games, despite shooting more shots.

“Right now I still like this team,” Braves coach Jim Hicks said. “We are working hard in practice and we are doing good defensively, but statistically we should be winning the games. We are just not shooting the ball well.”

Each of his players are getting an estimated 300 to 400 shots in practice, which should make them better shooters, Hicks said.

  • Demons want to compete this week

After suffering a disappointing loss to Eminence in the 8th Region All “A” Classic after having an 11-point lead at halftime, Williamstown will look to be competitive this week as they face Simon Kenton and Walton-Verona.

Demons coach Steve Sigmon is looking for improvement in these games, as it is the second time Williamstown is facing the Pioneers and Bearcats.

  • Demons face Warriors in All “A” Classic

The 8th Region All “A” Classic can be a second chance for a struggling Demons team, as they get a first-round match with Eminence Jan. 19 at Owen County High School.

The Demons (1-14) have fallen on some tough stretches including a 13-game losing streak to start the season.

  • Lady Braves have tough road ahead

After suffering a disappointing defeat against Oldham County 80-63, Jan. 14 at Grant County High School, the Lady Braves will have to gear up for three district games this week, including county-rival Williamstown Jan. 24.

The Lady Braves (3-12) offense had its best output of the season scoring over 60 points for the first time, but was unable to handle the full-court pressure of Oldham County, being forced into turnovers at inopportune times.

  • Braves set to take on Simon Kenton

The Grant County Braves improved their record to 7-9 with a hard fought 61-50 win over Henry County Jan. 15.

Braves coach Jim Hicks was pleased with his players’ effort the entire week in practice before the game.

“We were 6-9 coming into this game,” he said. “We have worked as hard this week than any team I have coached in my career. These kids have worked their tails off. If we work that hard, we are just going to get better.”
