  • Lady Braves eye Lady Devils

    With their Feb. 7 game against Spencer County canceled, the Lady Braves will now prepare for their next road game at Deming Feb. 11.

    The Lady Braves are currently on a two-game losing streak since beating Lloyd Memorial Jan. 29.

    Even with the losing streak, coach Darrell Guffey sees improvement from his players.

    “We are playing better,” he said. “We are improving at the right time and are a much better basketball team from the beginning of the season.”

  • Demons honor seniors Feb. 10

    If you thought that Senior Night was to be Feb. 7, think again.

    The game was rescheduled because of inclement weather.

    The Williamstown Demons will host Eminence Feb. 10, honoring the three seniors, Dean Faulkner, Derrick King and Kevin McCullough during a pre-game ceremony before their warm-ups.

    “I think it is going to be a good night considering if we beat Eminence,” King said. “It is our second to last home game ever here at Williamstown High School.”

    Even with the festivities, there is still a game to be played.

  • Blackburn’s 31 points not enough for Braves

    The Grant County Braves were unable to dig out of an early hole to upset Owen County, as they fell 73-67 Feb. 5.

    Braves senior Josh Blackburn set a new career high with 31 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Blackburn also was perfect from the free-throw line shooting 12-of-12.

    “It’s a career high, but that is not what I’m worrying about, because we still got the loss,” he said.

  • Wrestling team takes down opponents, jitters

    The wrestling program is nearing the end of their first season and some of the wrestlers will get a chance to qualify for state after the regional meet Feb. 11 and 12 at Walton-Verona High School.

  • Braves name Arvin new football coach

    A new era in Braves football is beginning, as Grant County High School named David Arvin the new head coach.

    Arvin, a Campbellsville, Ky. native has been the offensive coordinator for Washington County High School in Springfield, Ky. During his three years as coordinator, the Commanders went 30-6.

    Arvin wants to bring that kind of success to Grant County.

    “Grant County needs a winning attitude,” he said. “Washington County had a good winning formula and I think Grant County can be successful.”

  • Lady Demons win one for seniors

    The outcome could not have been any better for the Lady Demons, as they honored their three seniors with a 69-32 win over Bellevue Feb. 4.

    In between the junior varsity game and the varsity game, Williamstown paid tribute to the seniors on the cheerleading squad, Kirsten Gray, Taylor Stith, Alexndra Trumbo, Amanda Wilso Amber Vinson and  basketball players, Haley Rothwell, Chelsea West and Tori Wilhoit.

    Feb. 8, 1996
    Senior Brent Hopperton was named the Grant County High School Athlete of the Week.
    He averaged 14 points, six assists, three steals and five rebounds in two games.

    Feb. 6, 1986
    The Grant County Middle School Apaches finished their season on a high note, defeating St. Agnus in both the seventh grade (37-34) and eighth grade (47-36).
    Eric Motley led the seventh graders with 19 points and David Fields led the eighth grade with 21 points.

  • Braves get set for final stretch

    With the season winding down for high school basketball, Grant County coach Jim Hicks is concentrating on keeping his players healthy.

    “The big thing, like any other coach is that they want to stay healthy and not get anyone injured,” he said. “The focal point is healthy and continue to improve offensively and defensively.”

    The Braves play two games this week at home, Carroll County on Feb. 4 and Owen County on Feb. 5.

  • Demons look to get second win over Raiders

    An improvement in the past week for the Demons has been the play of junior forward Colton Simpson.

    “Colton was much better,” Sigmon said. “However, he needs to block out more and want the ball. He seems to stop posting after one time. Colton must demand the ball at all times and we need to get it to him.”

    The Demons will get an opportunity to defeat Trimble County for the second time when they head to Bedford Feb. 5. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
