  • Lady Braves finish season with loss to Lady Pioneers

After losing their final regular season game to Owen County Feb. 18, Lady Braves coach Darrell Guffey said his girls need to play four quarters of basketball to get better.

The same instance occurred in the 32nd District Tournament first round as Grant County fell to Simon Kenton 50-31 Feb. 21.

“We played really well for three quarters,” Guffey said. “If you take away the second quarter we outscored Simon Kenton 39-36.”

The size and speed of the Pioneers was too much for the Demons as they lost 73-37 in the first round of the 32nd District Tournament Feb. 21 at Simon Kenton High School in Independence.

Simon Kenton started the game on a 13-0 run coasting to the finish in a game that was never close.

Williamstown coach Steve Sigmon was unhappy with the team’s performance right off the bat, as he called a timeout just a minute into the game  with the score just 2-0.

  • Lady Braves fall short on Senior Night

As the pre-game ceremony began for the Lady Braves seniors Brittany Hearn, Logan Kidwell and Seneca Sullivan, it marked the end of all of the players that were on the team when coach Darrell Guffey came to Grant County in 2006.

For Guffey, it is tough to see them go.

“They are such great girls,” he said. “They are special to us and they will always be in our hearts.”
