  • Lady Braves slam Lady Demons 12-1

    Major League Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Warren Spahn once said, “Hitting is timing. Pitching is upsetting timing.”

    The Grant County Lady Braves softball team, took Spahn’s words to task, as they defeated their county rival Williamstown 12-1, April 7 at Grant County High School.

    The win moved the Lady Braves record to 7-4 on the season.

    Even with the win, Grant County coach Ott Reed said the team needs to improve on  plate discipline.

    The Lady Braves softball team defeated St. Henry 12-8. The team’s record moved to 2-3.

    April 24, 1986
    The Grant County High School track team competed in their second meet of the season at Bellevue.
    Marlon Kinsey won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:04. On the girls side, Kelli Phillippi won two gold medals with wins in both the mile and 800m runs. Her time in the mile was 5:30 and her 800m time was 2:29.

  • Sports Shorts 4-7-11

    Lady Braves struggle at Tenn. tournament

    When: March 31 - April 2
    Where: Riverdale and Murfreesboro, Tenn.
    What: The Lady Braves were not able to muster up a win over spring break as they lost four consecutive games in the Riverdale/Worth Invitational and Lady Warrior Invitational. Grant County only had three runs in the four games.
    Upcoming: The Lady Braves will host county rival Williamstown April 7 at 5:30 p.m.

  • Goe to soar with the Eagles in 2012

    Grant County Braves senior pitcher Aaron Goe already has a spot waiting for him on the list of pitchers for the 2012 season at Morehead State University.

    Goe signed his national letter of intent in November, which gave him a sense of security going into his senior year at GCHS.

    “It feels really good knowing where I am going,” he said. “It is more relaxed for me. If I make a bad play here, I still know I have a spot with Morehead.”

  • Softball rivalry set for some PING!

    Mark it on your calendars.

    The first of a two-game series between the Grant County Lady Braves and the Williamstown Lady Demons will be April 7 at Grant County High School. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.

    Last season, the Lady Braves swept the series, not allowing a run in either game.

    This season, Lady Demons’ senior shortstop Tori Wilhoit hopes for a different outcome.

    “I am tired of them sweeping us, so my goal is to beat them both times and end my last year sweeping them,” she said.

    Williamstown Demons  baseball started the season 1-2, defeating Gallatin County 10-6. Craig Houchens led the Demons with three hits.

  • Lady Braves starts season off 5-0

    When: March 25-26
    Where: Lexington
    What: Grant County improved their record to 5-0 on the season defeating Bryan Station, Lexington Catholic, Estill County and Tates Creek. The Lady Braves outscored their opponents 45-11 in the four games.
    Upcoming: The Lady Braves will play in the Lady Warrior Invitational April 1 and 2 in Riverdale, Tenn.
