    A traveling baseball team sponsored by Tom Duncan Real Estate, Arby’s and Shoney’s beat Rosebud Stables 14-1. Tyler Jones had two hits and three runs scored and Zack Yagle was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

    What: The Lady Braves bounced back from their loss to Oldham County, defeating the Lady Pioneers 4-3. Sophomore Samantha Perry had a home run to lead Grant County.
    Upcoming: The Lady Braves will face Williamstown at 5:30 p.m. April 20 at Williamstown High School.

  • Lady Demons win first round, lose semi-final

    It has been a rollercoaster season for T.J. West and the Williamstown Lady Demons softball team.

    After starting the season with a double-header sweep of Heritage Academy, the Lady Demons lost four consecutive games entering the 8th Region All “A” Classic April 14 against Eminence.

    Junior starting pitcher Emma Harris threw a two-hit shutout to lead the Lady Demons to a 4-0 win over the Lady Warriors.

  • GCHS raises money for Japan relief efforts

    As Major League Baseball and UNICEF have come together to raise money for the efforts in the Japan Earthquake/Tsunami relief, Grant County High School took their own action April 14, as they held an art auction and sporting events.

    One dollar of each gate entry, and the art auction raised $86, while teachers who wore jeans for a $1 raised $48 and the game admissions raised $77, for a total of $211.

    “We hope to raise more by selling more artwork in school,” Melissa Wallace, GCHS’ media specialist, said.

    Juniors Sarah Hager and Shelly Dalton hit back-to-back home runs to lead Grant County.

    The Grant County Squaws in their first season of competition, won four straight games to move their record to 4-5 on the season.

  • Braves start season 5-1

    The Grant County Braves are on their fastest start since 2008, when they started the season 9-2.

    That season, the Braves made it to the 8th region tournament, falling to North Oldham 8-1.

    Even with the loss, Grant County was second in the region only surrendering 99 runs in 25 games.

    This year, the Braves in six games have allowed only eight runs and that can be contributed to the starting pitching, including senior pitcher Aaron Goe.

  • County-rival tennis programs face each other for first time

    For the first time in both schools programs, the Williamstown Lady Demons girls tennis team and the Grant County girls tennis team faced each other on the court April 7 at Webb Park in Williamstown.

    Even though Williamstown swept the matches, Grant County is working on improving in their first year of the program after they were appointed a program at a September 2010 board meeting.

    The Lady Braves program has five girls on the team, junior Sydney Tencza, sophomore Courtney Elliott, sophomore Emily Samuel, freshman Meghan Cross and freshman Courtney Ford.
