The Lady Demons open up the volleyball tournament playing Gallatin County at 10 a.m. in the high school gym.

Other teams in the tournament include Walton-Verona, Eminence, Trimble County, Owen County and Carroll County.

  • GCHS boys’ soccer getting back to fundamentals

After falling to 0-3 on the season with a 5-0 loss to Scott County Aug. 25 at Grant County Middle School, Braves soccer coach David Schmitt has the team working on the fundamentals of soccer.

Schmitt said the team looked like they were making progress after a 1-0 loss to Harrison County on Aug. 23, but with the loss to the Cardinals, it was more like a step backwards.

“Hopefully, we will get that turned around with a couple of wins this week and gain some intensity and confidence,” he said.

  • Braves searching for first win

After losing their first home game to Owen County 20-6 at the Grant County Bowl Game Aug. 27, the Grant County High School Braves will seek their first win against Western Hills at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 2.

In the game against the Rebels, the Braves missed opportunities that put the game out of reach and coach David Arvin is preparing the team to correct that moving forward.

  • Lady Braves sweep W’town 2-0

For the first time since Sept. 18, 2008, the Grant County High School Lady Braves can say they defeated the Williamstown Lady Demons in volleyball.

Even though it was exciting for coach Kelli Lee to get the win over Williamstown, she was happy for some other aspects of the game.

“The most exciting part for me was that the girls stayed calm,” she said. “They continued to take it one ball at a time and not look at the score like they needed six points. They kept their composure.”
