  • Braves golf falls to Newport Central Catholic

    When: Aug. 17
    Where: Eagle Creek Country Club
    What: The Braves golf team fell just three strokes shy of tying Newport Central Catholic, which is ranked second in the region. Medalist for the match was Braves senior Tim Livingood with an even par 35 strokes on the front nine at Eagle Creek Country Club. Cody Kellam scored a 42, Jacob Vrolijk 43, Brian Perry 43, Trey Adams 49 and Luke Adkins 50.

  • Kellam leads Lady Braves over St. Henry

    When: Aug. 17
    Where: Eagle Creek Country Club
    What: The Lady Braves defeated St. Henry 191-220. Sarah Kellam was the medalist for the match with a four-over-par 40 on the front nine at Eagle Creek Country Club. Macy Wright and Sarah Boden scored 49 and Hannah Davis had 53. Top scorer for St. Henry was Ashley Schnieder with a 47. The Lady Braves match record is now 2-0.

  • Lady Demons come back to defeat Carroll Co.

    When: Aug. 17
    Where: Williamstown High School
    What: The Lady Demons, after falling behind in the first set, came back to defeat Carroll County in the final two sets to get their second win of the season.
    Results: 17-25 L, 25-18 W, 25-23 W

  • Lady Braves win first game of season

    When: Aug. 17
    Where: GCHS
    What: The Lady Braves were able to muster up their first win of the season defeating the Bellevue Lady Tigers in three sets. Junior Maria Smith had six aces in the second set, but the team was unable to win, forcing a third set where the Lady Braves won to win the match.
    Results: 25-21 W, 21-25 L, 25-17 W

  • Lady Braves win big over St. Patrick

    When: Aug. 17
    Where: St. Patrick High School
    What: The Lady Braves doubled their goals from their first game to their second game, scoring eight goals against St. Patrick, winning 8-1 for their second win of the season.

  • Girls’ soccer improves to 3-0

    For the first time this season, the Lady Braves got to show their skills in front of a home crowd, improving their record to 3-0 on the season, with a 1-0 win over Bourbon County Aug. 22.

    The win over Bourbon County was their first ever for Grant County and the excitement poured out of the girls as the final seconds wound down and the referee blew her whistle, marking the end of the game.

    First-year coach Sarah Boone was proud of the girls getting the win at home.

    For the first time this season, the Lady Braves got to show their skills in front of a home crowd, improving their record to 3-0 on the season, with a 1-0 win over Bourbon County Aug. 22.

    The win over Bourbon County was their first ever for Grant County and the excitement poured out of the girls as the final seconds wound down and the referee blew her whistle, marking the end of the game.

    First-year coach Sarah Boone was proud of the girls getting the win at home.

  • Lady Braves, Lady Demons serves game for a Cure

    Rivalries aside, the Grant County Lady Braves and the Williamstown Lady Demons volleyball teams have come together to play in the Volley-For-A-Cure game Aug. 27 at Grant County High School.

    “I am looking forward to it because it is my senior year and it is going to be one of the last times I play Grant County, but it is also the Volley-For-A-Cure game and I hope that people realize the game is for a cause as well,” Lady Demons senior Carlie Fossitt said.

  • Boy’s soccer seeks win against Scott County

    The season didn’t start out the way Braves soccer coach Dave Schmitt wanted after his team fell to Boone County 4-1 on Aug. 18.

    “It’s very tough because that was not the way we wanted to play,” he said. “We want to be aggressive and be the team that is attacking and it not be in reverse.”

    Senior midfielder Brian Chapman provided the only offense for the Braves, but he still felt the team wasn’t playing to their potential.

  • Braves to face rival Owen County

    The Grant County Braves football team will be gearing for rival Owen County during game two of the Grant County Bowl Aug. 27.

    After losing to Harrison County 33-14 Aug. 20, Braves first-year coach David Arvin saw some positives from their game, despite the score.

    “Defensively, Lucas Button played strong for us and he played so hard, he had to go to the hospital, he had nothing left in him,” he said. “They had to take him to pump fluids back into him. He was coming off an illness. That is someone who gives you everything he has.”
