Blaze, boy. April 9, 2013

 

Matthew and Ashlee Blaze of Williamstown would like to announce the birth of their son, Justice Radlee Blaze. He was born at 11:46 p.m. on April 9, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood. He weighed 8 pounds and 6 ounces and was 20.75 inches long.

His maternal grandparents are Gary and Joy Phipps of Florence.

June 11, 1998

Anthony J. Smith has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program at the U.S. Army Recruiting Station in Florence. Smith, a student from Grant County High School, will report to Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla., for basic training on Aug. 12. The recruit qualified for a $6,000 enlistment bonus.

Have you ever noticed that the best shows on television always take a break for the summer? Perhaps the executives behind these decisions have learned that the beautiful weather of summer usually invites playing outside, taking up summer sports and enjoying family vacations. When the sun is shining and more exciting adventures beckon, who would choose keeping up with a story line or even an interesting plot twist over swimming, hiking or taking a trip to Disneyland?

Faithfulness, forgiveness

A lady walks into a drug store and tells the pharmacist she needs some cyanide. The pharmacist said, “Why in the world do you need cyanide?” The lady then explained she needed it to poison her husband. The pharmacist’s eyes got big and he said, “Lord, have mercy. I can’t give you cyanide to kill your husband! That’s against the law! They’ll throw both of us in jail and I’ll lose my license.”

CANCER NEVER SLEEPS

They came, they walked, they gave, they laughed and they cried. Thirty-six teams, despite rain and wind gusts, raised more than $80,000 on May 31 at the Grant County Relay For Life in the community’s fight against cancer.

Despite the rain and wet conditions, teams and survivors gathered for a meal prepared by Performance Pipe employees. Activities such as a live auction, a visit from Elvis, a pizza eating contest and a team tug-of-war were held.
