  • Faster-Easier-Safer Voting Machines

Which method will you use to vote this fall? Would you prefer a paper ballot or an electronic one? In June 2009 the Grant County Board of Elections purchased eScan voting machines from Harp Enterprises, Inc. in Lexington. Because the several hundred thousand dollars spent for these voting machines provided a paper ballot trail, funding was provided by the Federal Government to assist states with the transition to a more transparent voting system.

  • Don’t torture yourself...that’s my job

While my husband Bud and I were attempting to find something decent to watch on television the other night – and it’s a desert out there, I tell ya – I started thinking that it has been some years since I compiled a list of my favorite movie quotes.

Although there are more interesting things to write about-I didn’t.
It is sad to say that there are few quotes worth adding since the last time I updated my list. And it’s sad that two of my favorite quotes include the word “taters.”

  • Community makes events happen, fun

On May 5, I was proud of my community and extremely proud of this year’s Derby Day festivities.

The morning of May 5 started with the 8th Annual Fitness for Life Around Grant County (FLAGG) 5K Derby Dash- Walk/Run. For some participants this race was their first ever 5K and for many that morning they set an all time high personal race time. As a Certified Group Fitness Instructor, I love nothing more than seeing groups of people engage in physical activity. See runningtime.net for full race day results.

  • Moms make tough choices

Like most kids, my daughter has her battle with the run of the mill sicknesses that every child gets. It was a Friday night like any other, my daughter was running around and I was trying to get her settled down for bed but it was Friday so I normally let her stay up a little later. I got her settled into bed, spent a little time to myself then it was off to bed for me it had been a long week and I needed a good nights sleep.

  • Help build back - bigger, better!

You are invited (and your help is really needed) on July 7 when the Grant County Little League is holding a benefit at Grant County Park in Crittenden to raise money to rebuild its field house/concession stand.
The structure at Bobby Gibson Memorial Field at Grant County Park in Crittenden was destroyed May 21 due to suspected arson.
Kentucky State Police are still handling the investigation and a $1,000 reward is available for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s).

  • DOWN AND DIRTY

  • The return of Ricky-Bob

There lives in the J. B. Miller park, deep within the pooled, bottomless water known most commonly as “the old reservoir,” a finned behemoth called “fish” by the ignorant and “monster” by the wise.

  • A good night’s sleep

I am not a big video gamer type of guy but occasionally I will get a wild hair and fire up the ol’ Playstation 2 and play a game or two. I did it yesterday when one of my girls was trying to play a college basketball game and she was playing as my beloved Kentucky Wildcats and the other team was the rival Mississippi State Bulldogs. She was doing pretty bad (losing by 10 points…in the first quarter) so I had, to commandeer the controller from her hand and redeem my national championship teams honor. Of course, I didn’t fare much better.
