  • Demons downed in districts

The Williamstown Demons boy’s basketball team gave it all they had against Simon Kenton on Feb. 23, but came up on the short end of the score, losing 85-70 to the home team in the District 32 matchup.
It was a big turnaround from their previous meeting with the Pioneers where the Demons fell at home by a 23-point deficit.
WHS Coach Harden Roger heaped praise upon his young team for their tenacity.  “They have a never quit attitude,” he said. “We’ve instilled that in them all year long to never quit.”

  • Braves lose to Colonels

The Grant County Boys basketball team’s season came to an end March 9 when the Braves lost to Oldham County 70-48 in Region 8 action at Henry County High School.

The night began when the hopeful Braves jumped out to an early 5-2 lead.
But that would be it for the scoring in the first quarter for Grant.
The Braves would go 5:30 minutes without scoring another basket and trailed 15-5 after one quarter.

  • Braves down Shelby to win regional opener

When it counted the Grant County Braves were able to turn to their seniors as they beat Shelby County 55-47 in the opening round of the 8th Region Tournament on March 7.
“We’re a senior-dominated team this year and they came through when we needed them,” Grant County coach Brandon Grammer said. “We played a very good game today against a good team.”

  • Austin Johnson breaks 35-year assist record

The word assist means to give support to or help to another.
For the last four years, Austin Johnson, son of Bonnie and Ernie Johnson, has done that for Grant County High School boys basketball.

This season, Johnson broke the assists record that was held by Kevin Wright for the past 35 years.

    Wright’s previous record was 421.

  • Prepped, ready for Lent

These past few weeks I have been diligently preparing for Lent.
    How, you ask?
Well, two weeks ago I found a pair of stone-colored flats online at 30 percent off and bought them. And today I bought a pair of white pants that were on sale (plus I used a $10 off coupon).
Even though it’s only early March and I have several or five pairs of white pants in my closet, they are all Capri-length and these are ankle-length, which is more suited to this time of year, or so I am telling myself.
