  • WHS seniors make most of their final season

    For Zack Anglin and Anthony Sarcione, they just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to play baseball their senior year.

    The first-year players joined Patrick Spoonamore, Jordan Perkins and Richard Moore as the teammates spent the end of their senior year on the baseball diamond.

    “I got away from the sport, but I got back into it and I enjoyed myself. I wish I had played my whole high school career. It was a good experience,” Anglin said.

    “This has been the best experience that anyone could have,” Perkins said.

  • Cahoon - Miracle to wed July 11

    David Scott Cahoon and Mellony Ann Miracle will be married at 2:30 p.m. July 11 at the home of Ed and Rosie Gabbert, 106 Lynwood Drive in Williamstown.

    The bride is director of business development at LifeCare Hospital in Miamisburg, Ohio.

    The groom is minister at Mount Olivet Christian Church.

    All are invited to the outdoor wedding and picnic reception immediately following the ceremony. The couple will reside in Williamstown.

  • Williamstown girls earn spot in AAU national tourney

    When Hannah Scroggins and Shelby Beckham started their AAU basketball season, the girls were looking forward for the chance to play in the national tournament in Florida.

    Their team, the Basketball Club of Kentucky Firebirds, earned a trip to Disney World, the site of the national tournament, with a second-place finish in the Kentucky AAU tournament in March. The national tournament is July 15 through 20. The Firebirds are a 10 and under team.

  • School is NOT out for some students

    Unlike the song, school is not out for summer for everyone.

    Some students at Grant County High School and Williamstown Independent Schools have been hard at work in the classroom while others are enjoying their break.

    At Grant County High School, about 60 students attend summer school in the morning while the afternoon session has an enrollment of about 35.

    Summer school, which costs the district about $16,000, began June 15 and ends July 10 for Grant County students.

  • Caldwell-Clayton to wed July 11

    Susan and Bob Raleigh of Crittenden announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Autumn Nichole Clayton to Derek Douglas Caldwell, son of Darrell and Brenda Caldwell of Williamstown. The wedding will take place at 6 p.m. July 11 at Williamstown Christian Church. The reception will follow at St. Williams on 6 Church St., in Williamstown.

    Both bride and groom are 2006 graduates of Grant County High School. She is a senior at NKU studying social work. He is employed at GSI in Richwood.

    All friends and family are invited.

  • Collier graduates from basic training

    Air Force Airman Shane A. Collier graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

    The airman completed an eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare and skills.

    Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

    Collier is the son of Jeff and Betty Collier of Williamstown.

    He is a 2004 graduate of Grant County High School.

  • Powell, boy, December 26

    Chris and Tammi Woodyard Powell of Independence announce the birth of their first child.

    Micah Shane Powell was born at 3:20 p.m. Dec. 26 2008 at St. Luke West in Florence.

    He weighed 7 pounds and 7.6 ounces and was 19.75 inches long.

    His maternal grandparents are Woody and Linda Woodyard of Williamstown.

    His paternal grandparents are Leroy Powell of Newport and the late Charlene Powell. His paternal great grandparents are Roy Powell of Fort Thomas and the late Lucille Powell.

    CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS

    • The Williamstown Woman’s Club is hosting an evening with John Domaschko, president of Strategic Initiatives Vision 2015, at 7 p.m. July 9 at the Williamstown Baptist Church. Domaschko will share the history, vision process, goals and projects relating to Vision 2015 and how this impacts the region. The public is invited.

  • Davies-Burgess wed April 17

    Sylvia Davies and Russ and Joyce Burgess, formerly of Crittenden, are pleased to announce the marriage of their children, Lisa and Patrick.

    The ceremony was held April 17 at the Volusia County Courthouse on the Halifax River in Daytona Beach, Florida.

    It was immediately followed by an intimate dinner at Parks Seafood Restaurant.

    Cutting of the wedding cake took place at the couple’s home in Daytona Beach.
