  • Rich named to all-star team

    While Ali Rich was shooting for state, she met another goal.

    Rich was named to the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Northern Kentucky all-star team, which recognizes top golfers across the region.

    “It’s a big accomplishment I think,” Rich said. “It was a personal goal. I was excited. I felt like I had accomplished something.”

  • Williamstown to hold open house on Nov. 9

    Williamstown Independent School will have an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 9.

    The open house will feature the new additions and renovations, school and classroom tours, student/staff “smart” technology demonstrations and refreshments. A recognition of the distinguished “CATS” students will be from 4 to 5 p.m. in the gym. All parents, community and alumni are invited.

    The Williamstown Band of Spirit arrived home to a hero’s welcome Saturday after winning their fourth state championship in five years.

    In their seventh state final appearance, Williamstown High School won the Class A Kentucky Music Educators Association state title at Papa John’s Stadium in Louisville over Beechwood, Mayfield and Murray.

  • Grant County marches to 8th place finish

    Grant County Marching Band earned the opportunity to compete in KMEA Semi-final Competition on Nov. 1. Grant County competed along side of 15 other 4A bands, all aiming for those final four slots to advance to Finals Competition that evening.

    Taking the field at 11:45 a.m., Grant County entertained the crowd with its show, “Scenes from Nippon” for the last time this season. Grant County ended another great season finishing eighth in state.

  • Alcohol sales get thumbs up

    Dry Ridge will be dry no more after a convincing majority of voters chose to make the city moist.

    With a total of 742 votes, 488 were in favor of making alcohol available in the city by the drink at restaurants and dining facilities with a seating capacity of at least 100 people and which derive at least 70 percent of their gross receipts from the sale of food.

    Only 254 residents voted no in the local option that was spurred by a signed petition filed Aug. 14 by J.B. Barnes.

  • Cheerleaders’ mission is to help others

    There’s more to the Williamstown Middle School Cheerleading squad than ponytails, pep and pompoms.

    These young ladies, 10 in all, have school spirit, but they’ve also got hearts, which are concerned for others.

    The squad, composed of all sixth grade students, have made it their mission to complete a monthly community service project, in addition to bringing spirit to middle school ball games.

    They recently made a trip to the Veteran’s Nursing Home in Ft. Thomas, where one of the girl’s mother, Melissa Angell, works as a pharmacist.

    Dry Ridge Elementary will honor WWII veterans this year. The program is at 9 a.m. on Nov. 11 with donuts and juice at 8:30 a.m. for the veterans. All veterans are invited to attend.

  • Playoff preparation: Braves get ready for John Hardin

    Grant County has enjoyed a lot of success on the field this year, but the Braves aren’t satisfied with their achievements during the regular season.

    The Braves will look to continue building on their regular season when they travel to play John Hardin in Elizabethtown at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 14.

  • Noteworthy: Deadline for holiday sign ups is Nov. 14

    Families who need a helping hand this holiday season have until Nov. 14 to sign up at their school’s family resource center.

    Parents or guardians should contact the school where their child or children attend to register and receive participation information.

    The deadline has passed to sign up at Crittenden-Mount Zion Elementary, but names are still being taken at Dry Ridge, Sherman, Mason-Corinth, Grant County Middle and Grant County High School.
