    Nolan Calhoun
    Nolan Calhoun was the Grant County Middle School winner of the National Geography Bee. He completed a written test in an attempt to qualify for the state competition in Bowling Green later this spring.

    Anthony Sarcione
    Anthony Sarcione, a 2009 graduate of Williamstown High School, was awarded the November 2010 Student of the Month at Morehead State University. This award is given by Morehead’s Student Government Association in recognition of a student’s demonstrating the hard work and dedication expected of Morehead State students.
    Sarcione has been on the dean’s list while attending Morehead and is majoring in elementary education. He also maintains a work-study position in the Business Department of the college.

    Students showcased experiments, met individuals from diverse career fields

    Grant County Middle School hosted a Career Fair, in conjunction with their annual Science Fair on Jan. 31 in the GCMS gym. Individuals from different career fields talked to students about their vocations.

  • Inmates indicted for contraband

    Six female inmates at the Grant County Detention Center have been charged with promoting contraband.
    The incident occurred after one of the inmates, Tonya Hopper-Manello, allegedly brought drugs, including Percocet and Xanax into the facility and shared them with her cellmates.

  • INDICTMENTS

    The grand jury, which met Jan. 12, returned indictments against 30 people.
    An indictment means there is probable cause to believe a crime has been committed; guilt or innocence is established later through the trial procedure.
    Indictments were returned against six inmates at the Grant County Detention Center. They are charged with promoting contraband. See accompanying story.

    Sitting at my fiancé’s farewell party from Home Depot, I noticed that one of the television’s in the Mellow Mushroom had the show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on.
    I normally do not watch this show, as it can be heartbreaking to watch these struggling families deal with medical issues or worse, a loss of life.
