  • Wilhoit, Hearn named to 8th Region All-Region team

    The 8th Region announced their list for the 2010-2011 All-Region team which included Williamstown senior Tori Wilhoit and Grant County sophomore Billie Hearn.

    For Hearn the announcement came unexpectedly.

    “I didn’t really think about it, but it makes me really happy knowing I am a part of it,” Hearn said.

    Hearn said her heart was fluttering when she received word that she was being named to the team.

    “This really made my day,” she said.

  • GCHS cheerleaders place first in game time fight song

    Where: NKU’s Bank of Kentucky Center
    What: The GCHS cheerleading squad won first place in game time fight song category at the Northern Kentucky Cheerleading Coaches Association Feb. 5. Overall, the squad finished third.
    Upcoming: The GCHS cheerleading squad will head to Western Kentucky University for the 2011 KAPOS State Competition Feb. 19.
     

  • GCHS holding tryouts for baseball

    When: 7 p.m. Feb. 15-17
    Where: Grant County Middle School
    What: The GCHS baseball team will be hosting tryouts for the 2011 Braves team. Tryouts will determine who will make the freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams. These tryouts are closed to the public.

  • GC Braves Youth Baseball coming in March

    When: March 12, 13
    Where: GCHS baseball field (in gym  if required due to weather.)
    What: The Grant County Youth Baseball Clinic will be held at GCHS and allows those ages 6-15 to learn the fundamentals of baseball. Any questions, call Tracy Goe at 859-322-6739 or coach Darrick Lee at 502-319-4645. Registration forms are available at all Grant County elementary schools and Grant County middle schools.
     

  • Extension offers community classes

    The following classes will be taught at the Grant County Extension Service, 105 Baton Rouge Road, Williamstown.
    • Bed Bug Bedlam
    How to prevent and get rid of bed bugs will be taught from 4:30 to 6 p.m. April 7 at the Grant County Library. This class is co-sponsored by Grant and Kenton County Extension Services. Call the Grant County Extension office to register.
     • Quilting Classes
    Quilting classes will be taught from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the first and third Monday of each month.

  • Diana Camacho to be inducted into GCHOF

    When: Feb. 17, 5 p.m.
    Where: GCHS Library
    What: The Grant County High School Hall of Fame will be inducting Diana Camacho into the Hall of Fame. The ceremony, which will be conducted in the library, is open to the public and will be about 15 minutes. Cake and drinks will be provided. Camacho was a member of the GCHS during the mid 1990s and was named to the All-State team in 1996.

    GCHS Class of 1996 planning reunion
    The Grant County High School Class of 1996 will hold their 15-year reunion at 7 p.m. Sept. 24, at the Double Tree Inn, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport.
    The cost is $35 per person and includes a buffet dinner and entertainment. Reservations should be made immediately. Please RSVP, with payment by check made payable to Gena True, 5085 Waynesville-Jamestown Road, Jamestown, Ohio 45335.

  • Lady Braves eye Lady Devils

    With their Feb. 7 game against Spencer County canceled, the Lady Braves will now prepare for their next road game at Deming Feb. 11.

    The Lady Braves are currently on a two-game losing streak since beating Lloyd Memorial Jan. 29.

    Even with the losing streak, coach Darrell Guffey sees improvement from his players.

    “We are playing better,” he said. “We are improving at the right time and are a much better basketball team from the beginning of the season.”

  • Ives-Hamm wed at Cincinnati Art Museum

    Elizabeth Ann Ives and Steven Nelson Hamm were united in marriage on Oct. 8, 2010 at the Cincinnati Art Museum.
    The bride is the daughter of Don and Patty Geers of Dry Ridge and Steve and Deborah Ives of Mt. Zion. The groom is the son of Rick and Audrea Hamm of Ludlow.
    David Spears officiated at the ceremony.
    Serving as matron of honor was Stephanie King of Lexington, sister of the bride.

  • Demons honor seniors Feb. 10

    If you thought that Senior Night was to be Feb. 7, think again.

    The game was rescheduled because of inclement weather.

    The Williamstown Demons will host Eminence Feb. 10, honoring the three seniors, Dean Faulkner, Derrick King and Kevin McCullough during a pre-game ceremony before their warm-ups.

    “I think it is going to be a good night considering if we beat Eminence,” King said. “It is our second to last home game ever here at Williamstown High School.”

    Even with the festivities, there is still a game to be played.
