  • Manning named January YPA winner

    The Youth Performance Award winner for January is Jamie Manning, a senior at Williamstown High School.

    Manning, 17, is the daughter of Michelle Kruse and James Manning of Williamstown.

    She is the oldest of 16 siblings, the youngest being just a year old.

    Her class schedule this year includes AP calculus, AP English, drama, office aide and college experience, where she goes to Northern Kentucky University for two of her classes.

    Her favorite class is AP calculus.

    “I may not be good at it, but I really like the teacher,” said Manning.

  • Cheerleaders place 13th at state competition

    As the Grant County High School varsity cheerleaders left for Bowling Green on Feb. 13, they each tapped a sign that said, ‘Perform Like Champions.’

    They had hopes of finishing in the top 10, dreaming that they could possibly finish in the top 5.

    When the time came to perform, they didn’t live up to their own expectations, dropping four stunts and finishing 13th. But, according to coach Leigh Simpson, their performance was unexpected after how they had been performing recently.

  • Williamstown girls fall in overtime on senior night

    On senior night, the Williamstown Lady Demons battled with Pendleton County, with the lead going back and forth.

    The Lady Demons ultimately lost in overtime, falling 60-52 on Feb. 16.

    “We did a poor job rebounding,” coach Mark Wilhoit said. “That was the key to me. They out hustled us and we have to do a better job of keeping them off the glass. To be small, we’re a pretty good rebounding team, but they exposed one of our weaknesses that we have to improve before the district tournament.”

    Grant County Future Farmers of America will celebrate National FFA Week Feb. 21 through Feb. 28. Step Up, Stand Out is the theme this year and more than half a million members around the nation will participate in National FFA Week activities at the local and state levels. Stepping up and standing out is not only a way of life for FFA members, but it’s also a call to action for others. FFA members set a positive example with their leadership, work ethic and community service activities.
