  • Friendship Foundation formed at Williamstown Schools

    Smiling faces and giddy laughter are contagious when a group of Williamstown students get together to play soccer and duck-duck-goose.

    Welcome to the Friendship Foundation, a newly formed club that features special education students being mentored by their fellow Williamstown School students.

    “All the teachers have to have a club,” said special education teacher Vicke Crowder. “Because we were special education teachers we decided to pair up our disabled students with non-disabled students to foster friendships.”

  • Crittenden man arrested after chase

    A 41-year-old Crittenden man was arrested in Cold Spring early Thursday, Feb. 26 after a high-speed chase that allegedly reached 100 miles per hour and covered 35 miles.

    Ricky L. Dozier was charged with disregarding a traffic control device, disregarding a stop sign, first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment and operating a motor vehicle under the influence.

    Cold Spring Police Officer Jeremy Enzweiler noticed a black Chevy Cavalier allegedly being driven erratically by Dozier around 3:05 a.m. on the AA Highway, according to police.

  • Junior varsity teams improve over course of season

    Junior varsity gives players the opportunity to get playing time and improve their skills as they prepare to play at the varsity level.

    The four area junior varsity teams each had players that made contributions to the varsity level this year and return to help their teams get better next year.

    The GCHS boys’ junior varsity team finished the season 12-10 and were close in a majority of their losses.

    February 27, 2009 could not come fast enough for the Glencoe mother of three who was finally able to spend the night with her family under one roof.

    “I’m so excited,” she said, as the white van from Gateway Rehabilitation Center in Florence brought her home, one year to the day of an accident that nearly claimed her life.

  • Chamber seeks annual award nominations

    Nominations for the annual Grant County Chamber of Commerce awards are now being taken. Categories include Grant Countian of the year, business person of the year, educator of the year and volunteer of the year.

    Pick up nomination forms at the Grant County Chamber of Commerce in Williamstown.

    The deadline for nominations is April 3.

    Awards will be presented at the Chamber Banquet set for April 18 at Williamstown High School.

  • Local students named to Transylvania’s Dean’s List

    Transylvania University sophomore Justine Croy, sophomore Katrina Mineo and first-year Caleb Ritchie have been named to the Dean’s List for the 2008 fall term.

    To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must achieve at least a 3.5 grade point average during the term.

    Croy is the daughter of Steve Croy of Dry Ridge and Diana Wise of Skull Valley, Ariz.

    Mineo is the daughter of Brian and Paula Richey of Dry Ridge.

    Ritchie is the son of Danny and Kari Ritchie of Corinth.

  • Students named WKU Dean’s List

    Brittany A. Chaney and Jessica E. O’Flaherty, both of Dry Ridge were named to the Dean’s and President’s List for the Fall 2008 semester at Western Kentucky University.

    Students making the Dean’s List have a grade-point average of 3.4 to 3.79 in a 4.0 scale. To be eligible for either list, students must have at least 12 hours of coursework that semester.

  • Memories will last for WHS seniors

    For the three seniors on the Williamstown girls’ basketball team, their time together has been sweet, on and off the court.

    Mellissa Snow, Jaclyn Stith and Amber Vance became a family, sisters tied together by their common love of basketball.

    “I love basketball because of the girls,” Vance said. “We are so close. Half the time, I think I’m closer to them than my family because I’m around them a ton during the season.”
