  • SPLASH OF SUMMER

    Grant County Parks and Recreation held its seventh annual Summer Splash camp July 9-July 13 at Grant County Park in Crittenden.
    The camp, which features arts and crafts, theater, games, science and lots and lots of water, was attended by 138 7- to 11-year-olds.

  • Yard sale to benefit Grant County Animal Shelter

    The Grant County Friends of the Shelter will hold a fundraiser yard sale on Saturday, July 28 to benefit the Grant County Animal Shelter.
    The yard sale will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Grant County Tourism and Chamber of Commerce Center at 1350 N Main St. in Williamstown.

    The rain date for the event will be Aug. 4.

    The Grant County Friends of the Shelter is an all-volunteer non-profit organization that supports and assists the shelter in helping homeless pets in the county.

  • Corinth passes budget

    When there’s not a lot of money in a budget, there’s not much to be done, says Corinth Mayor Billy Hill.


    “We haven’t had any new sources of income, so our budget is about the same as last year,” Hill said. “We continue to tread water.”
    Hill said the city saw a decrease in insurance taxes and he believes that’s a result of a stalled economy and people choosing to drop insurance coverage.

    “You also don’t see as many people watering their lawns as you used to,” he said.

  • Barnes Road changes ongoing

    Construction continues on a $3.8 million major realignment and widening of Barnes Road in Williamstown.

    Contractors are in the process of building a detour road so that work can continue on the new roadway, said Nancy Wood, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 6 public information officer.

  • Farm Credit hosts appreciaton event

    Farm Credit Mid-America, an $18 billion financial lending cooperative spanning the states of Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee, has kicked off their annual summer Customer Appreciation Events.  

    The Dry Ridge office hosted their event June 29 at the Grant County Extension Office where more than 65 customers had the opportunity to network with other Farm Credit members and staff and get the latest association news.

  • BAD TO THE BONE

    When Michele Pope realized she would have to leave her new Shitzu puppy with a dog groomer, she decided she should just learn to do it herself.

    So, Pope signed up for grooming classes in Lexington.

    Her family wasn’t sure what to make of her new found career choice.

    “I always told my mom that I didn’t know what I wanted to be when

    I grew up and grooming seemed like the perfect fit for a career working with animals,” Pope said.

  • Police investigate burglary at Bluegrass Tobacco

    Williamstown Police are investigating a July 8 burglary at Bluegrass Tobacco.

    The store, located at 1214C North Main St. in Williamstown, was allegedly broken into after two men through rocks through the glass front door, according to police.

    Police believe nothing was taken from the store after the suspects attempted to take money from the registers.

    The suspects are described as white males about 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall.
