  • State Champions

    The Grant County Jaguars headed to Louisville to play in the state tournament and came away with gold.

    The Jaguars, Grant County’s Special Olympics basketball team, defeated two teams in the state tournament to earn the gold medal on March 14 and 15.

    “I’m really proud of them,” coach Mike Bass said. “To be a team from Grant County and to go and take the gold at state, I can’t be prouder of them.”

    The Jaguars started the state tournament with a win in double overtime over the Southeast Fire, 27-21 on March 14.

  • GCHS track team hosts Grant County All Comers meet

    The Grant County High School track and field team used two indoor track meets to get ready for the outdoor season in the spring.

    The team starts their season with the Grant County All Comers meet on March 19 at GCHS, hosting over 400 athletes.

    “I think we’re pretty well prepared,” coach Brian Soules said. “We had a great winter season and we’ve got a lot of athletes that have joined over the last month or so, so we should have a good showing, both boys and girls.”

  • Cat Attack 3-18-

        The Kentucky Wildcats kicked off their postseason play this year with a home game against UNLV in Memorial Coliseum on March 17.  The site had not hosted an actual game since 1976 and was always the home for Midnight Madness when I was growing up.  The change of venue from Rupp Arena added some excitement to an event, an NIT game, that doesn’t exactly get my blood pressure up.

  • Spicer invited to Kentucky’s Homecoming Queen

    First, she was crowned Grant County High School’s 2008 Homecoming queen, then she was invited to the Liberty Bowl in Memphis.

    Now, Felicity Spicer, a senior at GCHS, has been selected as a finalist for Kentucky’s 29th annual Homecoming Queen Selection, which will be held April 18 and April 19 at the Executive Inn West in Louisville.

    “It’s all been so amazing and unexpected,” said Spicer, who has a 100-watt smile that lights up a room. If the smile doesn’t garner attention, then her singing voice will.

  • Curves supports food drive

    During the month of March, Curves of Crittenden and Dry Ridge will participate in the 11th Annual Curves Food Drive to benefit local food banks. Collectively, over the past five years, nearly 50 million pounds of food were distributed to local communities all over the world through the Curves Food Drive.

  • Stone makes most of senior year on squad

    Chelsea Stone was a part of Grant County’s marching band for five years, but her senior year, she wanted to do something different.

    Stone decided to join Grant County’s cheerleadering squad and made the most of her time on the mat, earning a spot on the junior varsity and competing with the girls.

  • Teams prepare for start of season

    As winter slowly turns to spring, the sound of baseballs and softballs hitting gloves is a welcome sound.

    The teams will start their seasons on March 23 and have been working to get ready for their first games.

    Each team features a new coach this year as T.J. West takes over Williamstown’s softball team, Aaron Biddle leads Williamstown’s baseball team, Justin Hollingsworth takes the reigns of Grant County’s defending district champions baseball team and Ott Reed, after a year away, returns as Grant County’s softball coach.

  • Lasting friendships made on the court for WHS seniors

    For the Williamstown senior basketball players, this season was their chance to prove that they could make something special happen whenever they took the court.

    They set a goal of winning 10 games and met that goal with their 92-42 victory over Covington Latin on senior night.

    “This year was a lot better. The past years have been kind of tough, record wise. It felt a lot better this year. It feels pretty good playing our last year and winning some ball games,” Zack Anglin said.

  • Grease is the word

    Grease is coming to Grant County!

    Grant County High School will perform their spring musical, Grease, March 20-22.

    On March 20 and 21, the play will start at 7 p.m., while on March 22, the show will start at 3 p.m.

    Tickets are $8 and can be bought in advance at the high school or at the door.

    The musical features a cast from the high school and the middle school, with sets designed by art teacher Emily Figueroa.

    The play is directed by Faith Clifton and Cheryl Workman.
