  • Clark officiates World Junior Championships

    David Clark has been running most of his life.
    Clark, who is also managing the Grant County Youth Cross Country Series, has been involved in track and field since middle school.

    He recently traveled to Eugene, Oregon for the third time to officiate the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) World Youth Meet.  
    He has been an officiate for the IAAF since 1997.
    The IAAF is for track and field members 19 and under. There were 10 officials from Kentucky.

  • Parker wins at Harrison County Invite

    The Grant County Braves had their final tune-up before the post-season on Oct. 23 at the Harrison County Invite. With the regional meet just a week away, the Braves were hoping to run well and go into next week with added confidence.
    Senior Sydney Parker, running in her final invitational of her high school career, went out to the lead from the start and never looked back as she pushed the pace over the hills of the Harrison County Country Club, finishing in 21:31.

  • Webster, Beavers place fifth,10th in state

    Grant County’s middle school and elementary cross country teams wrapped up their seasons on Oct. 25 at their state meet held in Masterson Station Park in Lexington.

    With over 350 runners in each race, this was the largest field the Braves would compete in all year, but the Braves approached this race with the confidence they have had all year. The team had many personal bests.

  • Life lessons in the mud

    Although I personally don’t get the fascination with running races through mud, these days lots of people do.
    A few years ago, my two daughters did a mud race together. My oldest daughter, Alison, said the obstacles freaked her out and she doesn’t like climbing cargo nets and was leery of leaping over fire.
