  • Camacho elected into GCHS Athletic HOF

    Diana Camacho became the fifth member and second class of the Grant County High School Athletic Hall of Fame Feb. 17 during a halftime celebration of the Braves/Juggernauts game.

    Camacho attended GCHS from 1994 to 1997 and played golf all four years. In that time she placed as high as third at the state tournament (1996) and was a two-time All-State team member (1995, 1996), according to Eastern Kentucky University  Archives.

  • Braves bid farewell to Blackburn

    At the beginning of the basketball season, the Grant County Braves basketball program had three seniors on the team.

    By season’s end, it was down to senior forward Josh Blackburn.

    At Senior Night Feb. 17, the Braves basketball program bid farewell to Blackburn and seniors from the wrestling team and cheerleading squad before the Braves/Juggernauts game.

    For Blackburn, it was a somber moment.

  • Domaschko given citizenship award

    Fred Domaschko says he’s not a hero, just a man at the right place at the right time.
    Domaschko was on his way home from work around 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 3 when he noticed the car in front of him swerving wildly.
    It was then that Domaschko noticed a 3-year-old child standing on the side of the road.
    The boy had wandered out of his Baton Rouge Road home and walked over a mile and a half in the snow. The child had no shoes and was wearing only a t-shirt and jogging pants.

  • Biddle signs softball letter with Asbury University

    Taryn Biddle will trade the blue and gold for purple and white as she signed her national letter of intent to play softball at Asbury University Feb. 17.

    “It feels really good,” she said after the signing. “I have wanted this since I started playing and now I signed the paper and it doesn’t feel real.”

    Her decision to choose Asbury was being able to meet Asbury coach Larry McCullough her sophomore season and being able to practice with the Lady Eagles.

  • Clough graduates basic

    Phillip A. Clough graduated from the Army Airborne School at Ft. Benning, Ga. on Feb. 4.
    Pfc. Clough graduated basic training and infantry school on Dec. 15, 2010 at Ft. Benning, Ga. Clough is currently stationed at Ft. Bragg, N.C. in the 82nd Airborne Division, 1/325 Parachute Infantry Regiment.
    He is a 2010 graduate of Grant County High School and is the son of Jason and Cindy Clough of Dry Ridge.

  • Good citizen, indeed

    Fred Domaschko doesn’t consider himself a hero. He told the Grant County Fiscal Court he was just doing what his parents had taught him to do when he found a 3-year-old boy standing on the side of Interstate-75 in Williamstown on a cold, snowy night earlier this month. (See story on page 3.)
    Domaschko dialed 911 and waited with the little guy until help arrived.
    As it turns out, the child managed to get out of his home and walk for over a mile and a half, down an embankment before he was discovered.
