  • Thieves make clean sweep at laundromat

    Thieves have been cleaning up at Spin City Laundry in Dry Ridge.

    On four separate occasions,  coins were removed from washing machines, dryers and the change machine at the 24-hour laundromat.

    The first incident occurred on Oct. 21, 2010 when the facility was targeted by what Dry Ridge and Williamstown police are calling an organized ring or rings of four men and women.

    Sgt. Terry Osborne investigated an accident at 10:48 p.m. Jan. 7 on Dixie Highway. The drivers involved were Jesse A. Bushong, 29, of Dry Ridge, driving a 1997 Honda and Jose L. Perez, 35, of Cary, N.C., driving a 1997 Dodge.

  • ‘SUSPICIOUS’ FIRE DESTROYS BUILDING

    Firefighters from Dry Ridge and Crittenden battled a blaze on Creek Road, near the Gallatin County line on Jan. 18.

    The fire, which began around 2:41 a.m.. involved an unoccupied two-story building.

    A neighbor noticed the blaze and called 911. When firefighters arrived, the second story had collapsed. Fire officials said the fire was “suspicious” and remains under investigation.

    Dry Ridge
    Chief Rick Kells executed warrants, for assault fourth degree and failure to appear at court, for Bianca Brooks, 30, of Dry Ridge, at noon Jan. 3 on Meadow View Drive. Brooks was lodged at the Grant County Detention Center.

  • On the Job

    Terry Peeples spent three years as a deputy jailer and shift commander at the Grant County Detention Center.

    But, when he walked into the jail Jan. 3, he was in charge and armed with countless ideas for improvements.

    Peeples defeated former jailer Steve Kellam in the May 2010 primary election before besting Republican challenger Harvey Perleberg in the November general election.

  • Two arrested for arson

    Two men have been arrested after police say they broke into an unoccupied home and set fire to it on Dec. 29 on Cummins Lane in Dry Ridge.

    Grant County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Burke charged Cecil R. Rose II, 20, of Williamstown and Curtis J. Morrison, 19, of Hebron, formerly of Williamstown, with second-degree arson and third-degree burglary.

  • Dry Ridge meth lab bust nets four arrests

    Two men and two women spent New Year’s Day in the Grant County Detention Center after police charged them with making methamphetamine.

    The arrests occurred at 10:23 p.m. on Dec. 31 at Locust Ridge Apartments in Dry Ridge when Kentucky State Police officers removed the four suspects in handcuffs.

    Dry Ridge
    Chief Rick Kells investigated an accident at 3:24 p.m. Dec. 23 on Broadway. The drivers involved were Dawn R. Barton, 30, of Dry Ridge, driving a 2000 Pontiac and Jennifer D. Brown, 36, of Dry Ridge, driving a 2002 Chevrolet. Barton was charged with no insurance.

    Grant County
    Deputy Robert Morgan investigated an accident at 2:44 p.m. Dec. 13 on Warsaw Road. The driver involved was Mike T. Baker, 48, of Dry Ridge, driving a 2001 Ford.

  • Fires destroys lake home

    David Campbell awakened around noon on Dec. 17 to find his Swanee Shores home filled with heavy, black smoke.

    “I saw the smoke and got my babies out,” he said, the day after the fire that destroyed the place he’s called home on Williamstown Lake for the last nine years.
