As snow and ice melt, cautious drivers have to deal with another road worry — the dreaded pothole.

Potholes, small and crater-like, litter Interstate 75 and city and county roads providing a treacherous obstacle course for drivers.

“I believe it is worse this year because of the freezing and thawing we’ve had,” said Ed Gabbert, director of transportation of Williamstown Independent Schools. “It’s all weather-related. We’ve had so many trucks and scrapers out there and that takes a toll on the road, too. It’s just the wear and tear of the road.”

Thieves have been cleaning up at Spin City Laundry in Dry Ridge.

On four separate occasions,  coins were removed from washing machines, dryers and the change machine at the 24-hour laundromat.

The first incident occurred on Oct. 21, 2010 when the facility was targeted by what Dry Ridge and Williamstown police are calling an organized ring or rings of four men and women.

Firefighters from Dry Ridge and Crittenden battled a blaze on Creek Road, near the Gallatin County line on Jan. 18.

The fire, which began around 2:41 a.m.. involved an unoccupied two-story building.

A neighbor noticed the blaze and called 911. When firefighters arrived, the second story had collapsed. Fire officials said the fire was “suspicious” and remains under investigation.

Terry Peeples spent three years as a deputy jailer and shift commander at the Grant County Detention Center.

But, when he walked into the jail Jan. 3, he was in charge and armed with countless ideas for improvements.

Peeples defeated former jailer Steve Kellam in the May 2010 primary election before besting Republican challenger Harvey Perleberg in the November general election.
