  • Alert auto parts employees thwart theft

    Mack Junior McIntosh, 32, of Dry Ridge, was indicted by a Grant County grand jury on Aug. 10 for theft by deception under $10,000.

    He is accused of entering into O’Reilly’s Auto Parts in Dry Ridge on Aug. 1 and representing himself as an employee of Midas Muffler in Lexington.

    Grant County Sheriff Chuck Dills said he told O’Reilly’s employees that he was purchasing tools and equipment for the muffler shop where he was employed. Dills estimates the items were valued at $5,000.

  • Jailer fields questions from fiscal court

    Grant County’s three magistrates had plenty of questions for Jailer Terry Peeples and most of them involved money being spent at the detention center.

    The magistrates peppered Peeples with questions concerning the jail’s budget, employee turnover, purchasing supplies from local businesses and general operations at the facility, earlier this month, when Peeples provided them with a written summary from his time in office, which began Jan. 3.

  • ANOTHER VEHICLE ENDS UP IN LAKE

    Divers with the Williamstown Fire Department and Grant County Emergency Management went ‘fishing’ over the weekend for a stray vehicle. The vehicle apparently slipped out of gear and rolled from Harbor Pointe Subdivision into Lake Williamstown.

  • Was he pushed or did he jump?

    Was Michael Baker pushed or did he jump from a moving vehicle? That’s the question that police are attempting to answer as they continue to investigate Baker’s death.

    The 30-year-old man’s body was found alongside Ky. 22, near Four Corners, around 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 8.

    “The preliminary autopsy indicates he died from head trauma, consistent with him falling or being pushed out of a car,” said Grant County Sheriff Chuck Dills.

  • Funny $$$ scam nets 5 arrests

    Five people were arrested after counterfeit money made its way through Grant County.

    he investigation began July 24 after Grant County Sheriff Deputy Scott Conrad responded to Dry Ridge Wal-Mart after a female suspect had attempted to Money Gram $500 in counterfeit $20 bills.

    “(The store) had marked the money with a marker and discovered they were counterfeit bills,” Conrad said.

    The deputy obtained a description of the suspect and their vehicle through surveillance video footage.

  • Former pastor sentenced

    MOBILE, Ala. — A former Dry Ridge pastor was sentenced July 19 to 17 and a half years in prison for sending and soliciting child pornography through Facebook.

    Jerry Cannon, 63, pleaded guilty in April to possession and distribution of child pornography in a federal court in Alabama.

    Cannon, a land surveyor, founded the non-denominational God’s House Church in Dry Ridge four years ago.

  • Inmate fails to return from medical furlough

    A Grant County Detention Center inmate granted release for a few hours to see a doctor still has not returned after nearly two weeks.

    Angela West, 30, was given a medical furlough by Circuit Judge Stephen Bates to see a specialist on July 14 in Edgewood.

    The Bowling Green resident left the facility at 1 p.m. and was supposed to return by 5 p.m.

  • Grant jail goes tobacco-free

    Cigarettes have been extinguished and dip is gone at the Grant County Detention Center since the facility has gone tobacco-free.

    The change took effect July 1 in anticipation of administrative regulation passed by the Kentucky Jail Standards Commission being approved by the Legislative Research Commission in August or September.

    Previously, Class D work inmates could smoke at an outside smoking area and while out on work duty and could purchase cigarettes and dip from the jail’s canteen.

  • Richmond man arrested in Grant police chase

    A 23-year-old Richmond man has been arrested in connection with a police chase that ended with a head-on collision with a deputy sheriff’s cruiser.

    Christopher Witt turned himself into the Grant County Sheriff’s Office on July 13, two days after a routine traffic stop turned into a pursuit through Grant County.
