  • Grant using new eWarrant system

    A new system will allow Grant County law enforcement to issue and arrest people on warrants quicker than ever before.

    Attorney General Jack Conway recently announced the implementation of an electronic warrant management system (eWarrants) in the 15th Judicial Circuit, which includes Grant, Carroll and Owen counties.

    There are now 101 Kentucky counties utilizing eWarrants, which facilitates the sharing of information among all law enforcement concerning active warrants in jurisdictions throughout the state.

  • TAKING AIM AT CRIME

    Law enforcement agencies in Grant County can practice their shooting without much of a drive thanks to an agreement with the Florence Police Department.

    Florence Police recently built an outdoor shooting range with enclosures for classrooms for trainings on a nine-acre plot of land in Grant County donated by Republic Services, owner of CSI Waste Services.

    The range, located on the Epperson Waste Disposal Landfill property in Williamstown, also will feature a canine training course and military-style obstacle course.

  • ONE KILLED, ONE INJURED IN CORINTH WRECKS

    A Verona man was seriously injured when his 2004 Nissan pickup truck apparently hydroplaned after Monday’s pouring rain.

    Robert “Shawn” Padgett, 39, had to be extricated from the pickup after the vehicle slid sideways into the guardrail before going airborne and possibly rolling over.

    The accident occurred at 7 a.m. on Sept. 26 near the 148 mile marker at Corinth.

  • Does $1,000,000 make us safer?

    More than $1 million in grants benefiting local fire departments and law enforcement agencies have been awarded since the Sept. 11 tragedy.

    While the grants may not necessarily be used to thwart terrorism, many have allowed departments to be better equipped and able to communication with each other better.

    The largest grant came in 2009 when Grant County fire departments received $655,000 in federal funds to help purchase digital radios and equipment.

  • Sheriff’s office leaves courthouse

    If you’re heading to the courthouse to pay your tax bill, then you need to change directions.

    The Grant County Sheriff’s Office has closed its office inside the Grant County Courthouse and moved operations to 212 Barnes Road, next to the Grant County Detention Center.

    The new sheriff’s office location will be open for business on Monday, Sept. 26.

    “We outgrew the space at the courthouse and really had no room to expand,” said Sheriff Chuck Dills.

    The Crittenden Fire Department hosted a memorial service on 9/11 commemorating the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. Members of the Grant County Honor Guard, composed of volunteer firefighters from the community, presented the flag.

  • Crittenden hosts 9/11 service

    The Crittenden Fire Department will host a memorial service commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorists attacks on America.

    The public is invited to attend a prayer service from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 11 at the fire department, 104 N. Main Street in Crittenden. Former Crittenden Fire Chief Dave Owens will also be recognized for his years of service.

  • Williamstown man tased by police

    Brandon Casselman, 26, was tased by Kentucky State Police, after he refused to surrender to them on Aug. 21.

    The incident began when police were called to a residence on Oak Ridge Road around 8 p.m. They found Casselman in the middle of the road, threatening to harm himself.

    According to Lt. Tom Lilley with the KSP Post 6 in Dry Ridge, troopers placed stopped sticks in front of and in the rear of Casselman’s car while they talked with him.

  • Jailer says PT employees will save county money

    Will part-time employees at the Grant County Detention Center save the county money?
    Grant County Jailer Terry Peeples says yes.

    “This works at other facilities,” Peeples said. “I think it’ll work here. We have to weed out the part-time employees who want to be here and those who are just desperately looking for a job.”
