  • Corinth may get Dollar General Store

    Is a Dollar General Store (DGS) coming to a Corinth near you?
    Discussion on Dollar General dominated the first meeting of 2013 for Corinth’s commissioners on Jan. 7.  

    Along with talk about the DGS, an update on possibly rebuilding of Allen’s Grocery and the closing of the Backwoods Grill were discussed.

  • Library fair puts kids on right path

    Parents can find out if their children are on the right path to start kindergarten at the second annual Ready To Read Early Childhood Fair at the Grant County Public Library.
    The free event will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Jan. 25 as local businesses, childcare centers, preschools, organizations and agencies present information for families with preschoolers aged 0 to 5 years old.

  • Would-be pill thief nabbed

    A Crittenden man was arrested after police say he attempted to rob a pharmacy.
    Leslie D. Collins, 44, of Crittenden was charged with attempted robbery after police say he walked into the Total Care Pharmacy in Crittenden at 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 16 and gave a note to a clerk demanding pills.
    Instead of giving him pills, the clerk called police and Collins ran from the store. Employees were able to get his license plate number.
    Sgt. Brian Maines of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office assisted KSP by locating the vehicle a short time later.

  • New parents can get helping HANDS

    What parent couldn’t use an extra set of hands when welcoming home a new baby?
    For first time parent, Christina Hammer, she was more than happy to have some help in the form of a program offered through the Northern Kentucky Health Department called HANDS or Health Access Nurturing Development Services.

  • COACHES VS. CANCER RAISES AWARENESS

    The Grant County Lady Braves and the Williamstown Lady Demons prepared to battle a much bigger opponent than each other Monday night.

    The two teams came together in the final meeting of the Coaches vs. Cancer four-game series to fight cancer.
    The Coaches vs. Cancer series is part of a national movement that raises awareness in the fight against cancer. This year, the events raised $2,652, which will be donated to the Grant County Relay For Life. This is the third year the community has participated and has raised more than $9,300 in those three years.

  • Missing man found

    A missing Dry Ridge man was later found in Boone County.
    The Kentucky State Police issued a missing persons report for Zachary Tyler Young, 21, on Jan. 8.
    He was last seen driving on Interstate-75 headed north around 1:15 p.m.
    Young’s body was discovered inside his 2012 Toyota Tacoma in Burlington on Thursday, Jan. 10.
    Police do not suspect foul play. Complete obituary information, can be found on page 7 inside this issue.

  • Crash claims one

    Max E. Calhoun, 56, of Union, was killed on Jan. 9 in Corinth when the 2005 Honda Goldwing he was driving struck an embankment.
    Calhoun was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Grant County where he was pronounced dead.
    The accident happened at 6:45 p.m. on Interstate-75 in a pouring rain.
    Police said he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
