  • SOPHIE AND JAMES PENNINGTON - 62 YEARS - NOV. 3, 1950

    A family connection sparked the relationship between James and Sophie Pennington that has ignited into 62 years of marital bliss.

    “I think my sister was married to his brother,” said Sophie, sitting in her chair alongside her husband.

    The Dry Ridge couple, who met in Clay County, married Nov. 3, 1950.
    The ceremony was held just down the road from their current home at Sherman Baptist by Pastor Kelly Kennedy.

  • THELMA AND ELTON SOUDER - 63 YEARS - JULY 7. 1949

    Elton and Thelma Souder of Dry Ridge have been married for 63 years.  
    “We were married for two years and I got my summons from Uncle Sam,” said Elton.

    He served in the United States Air Force.
    The couple has three children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

    They are both from the Cincinnati, Ohio. They were married in Latonia by Pastor Bernie Wolfe.

  • MOST WANTED:

    A Grant County couple who were two of Kentucky State Police’s Most Wanted have been arrested on abuse charges.

    Donald and Debbie McDaniel of Williamstown turned themselves in to the Grant County Detention Center on Feb. 12 and were lodged in jail.
    Donald McDaniel, 66, faces six counts of sexual abuse and three counts of criminal abuse.
    Debbie McDaniel, 55, has been charged with three counts of criminal abuse.

    “I went to school with her and she just brought him along one day so I could meet him,” Mendola said.

  • VIRGINIA AND RUSSELL WARMAN - 66 YEARS - OCT. 26, 1946

    On Oct. 26, 1946, Russell and Virginia Warman of Demossville, were married by Rev. Smith at the preacher’s house in Covington.
    Russell served three years in the military just before he met Virginia.

    “It was a friend of a friend of a friend thing,” said Russell.
    Since that time, the couple has had six children, five boys and one girl.  From those six children, they have 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

  • WANDA AND HAROLD COVEY - 65 YEARS - NOV. 16, 1947

    Harold and Wanda Covey of Dry Ridge were married on Nov. 16 1947. She was 15. He was 17.
    Harold’s aunt had to sign for Wanda to marry Harold. Times were simply different 65 years ago.

    They are still as in love with each other today as the day they decided to run off and get married.

  • WYLENE AND REB STACEY - 65 YEARS - JAN. 30, 1948

    Reb and Wylene Stacey met in grade school in Tennessee and never looked back.

    The Williamstown couple has been married for 65 years, but they have known each other even longer.
    “We’ve known each other all of our lives,” Wylene said. “We were in grade school and high school together. We danced all through the 40s. You probably couldn’t keep up with us.”

  • EMMA AND LEE ROY SIMPSON - 66 YEARS - FEB. 1, 1947

    When Lee Roy’s Simpson’s car broke down on the way to his wedding on Feb. 1, 1947, he almost didn’t get to begin what would turn out to be 66 years with wife, Emma.
    “I stopped in Williamstown and ate a sandwich, then went on to pick up Jouett Faulkner, my best man, and on our way, the car quit and it was getting pretty close to time for the wedding,” Lee Roy said.

  • DONALD AND BETTY PERRY - 70 YEARS - AUG. 22, 1942


    Donald and Betty Perry didn’t have a fancy wedding.
    Just a simple ceremony before the Justice of the Peace at the Grant County Courthouse on Aug. 22, 1942 and 70 years later they’re still together.

    The Perrys spent their first few years of married life living with his parents. They settled in their frame home in Williamstown and worked the farm. That’s where you’ll find them today.
    The couple worked side by side on the farm in tobacco, hay, raising cattle and a garden.
